Scholes, Gerrard or Lampard

Paul Scholes gets better the longer he's retired. He was good, and highly rated, but nobody spoke about him during his career like they do now.
They romanticize Scholes based on how good Barcelona became and how midfielders like Xavi and Iniesta showed you could be a great midfielder playing passes and dictating tempo etc, when 15-20 years ago people were looking at central midfielders from the perspective that they should be like Keane, Vieira, Lampard or Gerrard.
When I say "people" I mean the general public. Scholes always well thought of within the game. Only years later is the public perception shifting.

spot on

Scholes imo. He just quietly went about his business but was a top player for so long. Man Utd built several teams around him and continued to dominate.

none of them are a patch on Gazza like

Tell that to JH’s Premier League winning medal

Henderson can win the Premier League for the next 10 years..he's still not a better player than Gerrard.

sorry, but with the greatest of respect, what would a West Ham fan know about identifying quality players?

What is Marco Boogers up to these days? Rofl

People that used to say Scholes should start in front of the other two at the time? nobody.

People that say it now - almost everybody

Bollocks.

Ive never ever put Lampard even close to the other two as footballers. Because he wasn't.

Whenever I watched Scholes, he always seemed to have that extra bit of time on the ball. And to stay in that Man Utd team for so long took some doing. Gerrard was a fantastic player, but possibly stood out more as he was generally head and shoulders above anything Liverpool had at that time. Lampard scored a shit load of goals.

I think Scholes was technically a better player, but if Sunderland were to sign one of them in their prime, I'd have gone for Gerrard, purely for his influence on games and leadership qualities.

So Ginola with 3 goals and one assist deserved player of the year did he in a season when Beckham finished runner up to Rivaldo for the Balon dor 😂

So Gerrard's better cos he takes pens 😂😂
I'm not saying Ginola did, the PFA did. And you are intimating that Scholes wasn't even second best, so you're still not helping your own case are you?!

I don't think Gerrard is better because he took penalties. What I'm saying is that Scholes never had the confidence in his own mental toughness or footballing ability to take a penalty. Nor did he have the capability to captain a team. Therefore Scholes never had the ability to influence his team the way Gerrard did. In my book this makes Gerrard the better footballer.

As many have said all very different players and as a measure to define best - I have two - if you could pick one to play in your team who would it be? If they were starting against us who would you fear the most? Having this it doesnt really help me as I'd have Scholes in my team and probably fear Gerrard more playing for the opposition.....that was no use whatsoever.....TTFN d@ckheads

I think they’re all very different players who had totally different strengths.. Lampard was exceptional going forward and scoring goals.. Gerrard was a box to box players who could tackle and score.. Scholes could dictate play against the best teams in the world. I think had Gerrard left Liverpool in his prime and played for a better team he’d probably be considered the best of the three - the fact that he didn’t means we’ll never know - it’s a draw for me
