Scholes, Gerrard or Lampard

He scored 2 goals in the whole tournament ffs. Hardly dragged you to winning it.

Lampard scored more in that seasons competition but his team mates let him down.

Gerrard scored 4 goals in 10 champions league games that season. He was massive in the final.

Lampard scored 4 in 12.

Scholes and Gerrard about the same level for me with Lampard below them in third.

It was amazing how they were class for season after season for so many years. Hardly anyone to match them in the premier league at the minute.

There is no way, no way Scholes or Lampard could have dragged an average Liverpool team to a CL win, carried that team for years.

Whereas I can easily see Gerrard smashing in goals at Chelsea with Makelele behind him, and I can see Gerrard winning title after title at United.

That Liverpool team without Alonso are nothing. As soon as Alonso left Gerrard's form suffered.

Also Gerrard was a selfish player. Are Giggs and Beckham as effective with Gerrard I don't think so.

Gerrard was obviously top class but he was a typical British midfielder just pure power he wasn't a very intelligent footballer.

People look at Scholes stats and think he's overrated. How many times did he lay on goals via Beckham and Giggs though?

Gerrard looked shit for England and that's because he didn't have an Alonso to make him look good.

All superb players, think it just comes down to personal preference really and mine is Paul Scholes.

All 3 are a big miss to their clubs and football in general. Now we've all got to put up with expensive, overated shite like Pogba who couldn't clean the boots of these lads.

Pogba has better ability than all 3 it's his attitude.

He's a more complete footballer by a mile

Different midfielders. If I had to pick one i'd go with the little ginger fella.

The best CM of that era isn't even mentioned and he managed Sunlin as well

Scholes is the choice of those who know about football. He is also the choice of people like Messi, Xavi, Ronaldo and Zidane (who called him the only great English midfielder).
Funny Scholes never won a PFA Player of the Year award then! Neither did Lampard so, as he was the only one of the three to win it, then Gerrard must have been the better player.

Or are you going to try and say that footballers know nothing about football?

Load of rubbish tbh. Gerrard was class before Alonso turned up at Liverpool but of course he and Liverpool were better with a brilliant player like Alonso in the team.

How was Scholes for England? Imo it was terrible management by our managers especially Sven to not be able to find a system that got the best out of Scholes and Gerrard.

Pogba with his 4 serie A titles, 2 italian cups, English league cup, Europa league and a world cup by the age of 25.
Also has 65 goals from midfield at the age of 26.

Gerrard for me like.

With Henderson though it begs the question, at what point does he go from being a mackem to a dipper?

Gerrard was much more complete. He played RB, centre mid, right mid and no.10 and did it all at a high level. The other two could play in one position

Scholes who played left wing?

I think Gerrard was averaging 5 goals a season pre Alonso. Not exactly class

Erm yes

Did you Ginola won the PFA player of the year in Man Utds treble season 😂

Currently Pogba has 4 leagues, 3 cups, Europa league, World Cup. 65 goals.

At the same age as Pogba in their careers;
Lampard 70 goals no trophies.

Scholes 4 leagues, 2 cups, 1 champions league. 60 goals.

Gerrard 4 cups, 1 uefa cup, 1 champions league, 64 goals

Madness saying Pogba doesn't have a look in compared to those 3 English players.

Scholes for me, think he could have been in the starting 11 of any team in the world in his prime.

Our national team really should have done better with the players we had at our disposal.

scholes started out upfront and then attacking midfield before centre midfield. he then developed his game as he got older and became a playmaker

Lampard was the most effective

Raw talent would be Scholes

Biggest competitor, Gerrard

What’s the definition of ‘best’?

Yes and it hardly helps your cause does it?!

Gerrard played with the added burden of being team captain and still had enough confidence to be Liverpool's first choice penalty taker.

I can't ever remember Scholes ever being given the captain's armband or taking a penalty for United - and notably he didn't step up to take a shoot-out penalty for England v Argentina in the 1998 World Cup.

If he wasn't strong enough or inspiring enough to be team captain and wouldn't back himself to take a penalty then how can he be said to be a better player than Gerrard?

Moreover, Gerrard would have died for his country whereas the ginger sulk turned his back on England by retiring at 30 because Sven preferred Gerrard and Lampard in centre midfield and pushed him out to wide left. He doubled up on this by then refusing to play for his country again when Maclaren and then Capello asked him to reconsider.
