Scholes, Gerrard or Lampard

Paul Scholes gets better the longer he's retired. He was good, and highly rated, but nobody spoke about him during his career like they do now.
They romanticize Scholes based on how good Barcelona became and how midfielders like Xavi and Iniesta showed you could be a great midfielder playing passes and dictating tempo etc, when 15-20 years ago people were looking at central midfielders from the perspective that they should be like Keane, Vieira, Lampard or Gerrard.
When I say "people" I mean the general public. Scholes always well thought of within the game. Only years later is the public perception shifting.
I guess the longer Man U go without competing for trophies, his legend will grow, as you say massively underrated by everyone but his team mates

Honestly think Gerrard is one of the most overrated footballers of all time.

Lampard was much better IMO but Scholes was comfortably the best of the 3

There is no way, no way Scholes or Lampard could have dragged an average Liverpool team to a CL win, carried that team for years.

Whereas I can easily see Gerrard smashing in goals at Chelsea with Makelele behind him, and I can see Gerrard winning title after title at United.

Scholes is the choice of those who know about football. He is also the choice of people like Messi, Xavi, Ronaldo and Zidane (who called him the only great English midfielder).
So everybody who doesn't pick Scholes knows nothing about football? Have a word with yourself

He scored 2 goals in the whole tournament ffs. Hardly dragged you to winning it.

Lampard scored more in that seasons competition but his team mates let him down.
