I guess the longer Man U go without competing for trophies, his legend will grow, as you say massively underrated by everyone but his team matesPaul Scholes gets better the longer he's retired. He was good, and highly rated, but nobody spoke about him during his career like they do now.
They romanticize Scholes based on how good Barcelona became and how midfielders like Xavi and Iniesta showed you could be a great midfielder playing passes and dictating tempo etc, when 15-20 years ago people were looking at central midfielders from the perspective that they should be like Keane, Vieira, Lampard or Gerrard.
When I say "people" I mean the general public. Scholes always well thought of within the game. Only years later is the public perception shifting.
