Not to mention the utilities that the Thatch sold off cheaply and is now being sold on to the Qataris and the Chinese - no doubt making a fortune in the process. What a fucked up country. :(
All thanks to Roy Lynk and his merry men.
Scabs the lot of them.

Not really was not aimed at you more people calling people scabs who are not!

Do you not think it is ignorant calling people scabs who are from Nottingham but had nothing to do with the strike?

Personal abuse for nothing!!!
Hypocrite.
Of course it isn't ignorant, bigoted and small minded it maybe but not ignorant.

Not progress at all.
The mines have all closed, the ship building and steel industries have all gone because the scabs didn't stand shoulder to shoulder with their fellow working man.[/QUOTE

And it's all the fault of Nottingham Forest supporters:lol::lol:,you might as well blame the bloke in my picture after all he was manager of Forest at the time of the strike.

Thought so. Scabs or scum, take your pick! If the shoe fits!
Nice to see my match day thread went its typical way

I love this place

aren't the forest lot bum bandits with the mags? and didn't they put a flag taking the piss over a motorway bridge after we were beaten at wembley?
The smoggies too

Recall travelling down on the A19

They had a banner on one of the flyovers saying
cmon Charlton where my hatred of them comes from

That's complete rubbish and the sort of opinion that holds the north east back, keeping Sunderland blindly labour no matter what.

Folk go on like they were 'the good old days', like anyone now would WANT to work in a fu**king coal mine!

The industries you quote would have died anyway, regardless of strikes / strike breakers / politics.

Other countries do it cheaper, that's capitalism.

I know of people who went back, they where getting chased out of villages for years after. It wasn't them in the wrong they where about to lose everything. Thatcher annihilated scargill in this war and she hurt thousands of people doing so. She showed no remorse and that is why people still think Arthur was sound as a pound living in his million quid flat paid for by the union. I believe he had his heart in the right place but he was risking nowt compared to the average miner.

I spoke to some lads in the old NUM museum, above the club in Neville's Cross, great fellas and they told me how, after Murton miners went back and their pit closed, the Eppleton (where the Murton ones were sent) lads insisted they were always in the lift below them at the start and end of their shifts, so they could (literally) piss on them, every day.
Might have been the other way round - Eppleton/Murton and I'm sure someone on here will be able to shed light on this story.

You are suggesting that people in this region have full economic mobility. A lot of people don't want to do what they do, they have little choice.

That is not what has held the region back, it was Thatcher's tirade against those who she thought had brought Heath's government down in the early 70s. Many parts of this area have still never recovered.
