Save Seaburn

Seaburn is being left behind mind.
Every year that passes sees more and more getting done either side of it, Seaham and Shields.
People on the metro thread mocking Shields new metro station when in fact it’s only another nail in the coffin for Seaburn.
Seaham being only 150 yards long is attracting more business interest, more footfall and more investment that’s leading to an overhaul of the Main Street and parking areas.

I’ve been saying it for a long time but it’s solely down to the council for the state of the city. Nothing is ever carried through and when it does it’s a snails pace. And if people on here think that the stack is ‘temporary’ think again. It will be there for a long long time, probably longer than the Seaburn centre. But I suppose it will keep a lot of people happy down the bents.
On a hot day look at the traffic at the jolly sailor, look at the queues going into and leaving Seaburn. It’s backed up to Latimers of people leaving.

Was that the area adjacent to Seafields (the old pitch and putt and that overgrown play park) that they were going to develop into housing ?

Something needs doing with that part as it’s an eyesore

The Miller Homes development has changed the landscape really. The City/Seaburn needed new housing and it’s gotten 250 new builds without touching the front. A further 100 at the back of the Seaburn site and its job done

Mind, it’s quite amusing the save Seaburn campaign are trying to take credit . At one of their meetings they voted to grass the entire site

I think I posted this before but a few late night bars/clubs are interested in the site so we could have a really vibrant nightlife. No idea if the casino attached to the hotel will get permission though

Seahams was well over due and part from the odd cafe its stuff SR6s don't want
Housing, retail park, business park . Seaburn along to roker sea front has had steady improvement
Main issue is what to do next
Most ideas I read aren't the answer imo

Nothing against the place but I really don't get this love-in with Seaham. It's nice but nothing exceptional.

I think you'll also find that traffic naturally tails back around The Jolly Sailor, even on miserable days. On hot days do people not just like to drive along the front?

A bit of connected thinking would have an apartment block and retail units on the Pullman Lodge site. Give Martinos the option of moving into one of the units when complete and then extend the development round into Dykelands Road. Design the apartments so they gradually recede slightly from the road as they go upwards so each one has an extended balcony. 2/3 bedrooms on the bottom, 1/2 bedrooms upper floors.

Any leisure, bars, restaurants, family led leisure hotel, arcades, crazy golf, mono rail. And about 100 residential dwellings to provide additional footfall ... oh wait... isn’t that what SaveSeaburn has been campaigning for?

Most of them crawled out of the woodwork when the land behind south bents was earmarked for housing. The ones squealing the loudest hardly f***ing mentioned the actual front.

Ah well It’ll be a wasteland for another 3 decades while the miller homes will go ahead.

Lose lose

Yeah they drive one way mate, out.
I’m not in love with seaham and your right it’s nothing special but it seems to have a good balance. The outlook centre on the bottom is a cracker. Similar to Roker to be fair. But free parking. I use all three areas regular probably more than anyone on this site so I have a good idea which is busiest, not a dig or a boast it’s just I use all three areas at 4/5 times a week. And not just a walk along the front with the dog.

And its virtually impossible to get parked round by the Tommy statue. So whenever we go to Seaham we end up parking down the Vane Tempest end which is bit of a walk down to where stuff is. There's free parking options for Roker in the streets within a similar walking distance.

Seaham is canny. Nothing spectacular but a massive improvement on a 20 years ago. Seaburn and Roker are also both massively improved to a few years ago. But they both (Seaburn mostly) have the potential for much more.

Park behind the Barclays mate or down next to the pier. There’s always spaces down there, there is a load of cafes and the lifeboat museum down there too I use it regular for the boat.

What’s Kath’s view gonna be like, though?

That’s what the whole charade has been about, in reality...

...a handful of NIMBYs terrified that a vista they deemed to be rightfully theirs was suddenly going to be an extension of their very own tacky housing estate.

Said bunch of middle class twerps with nothing better to do than engage the services of an aggressive ex-copper with a chip on his shoulder, charlatan fakes, one disinterested politician and a group of attention-seekers. All done to raise their narcissistic profile and unnecessarily involve things like environmental issues, transport infrastructure and the supposed socio-economic decline of a whole post code.

It was all about THEM, not Seaburn.

Kath and the Belgian were WELL out of their depth from Day One. Trust me, I saw the PowerPoint presentation!

Seaham is a lot better example of what Seaburn should do. Much classier than South Shields.
Spot on. Loads of people espouse the tack of Shields and that it's what Seaburn is missing. Personally I hate Shields. Full of absolute knackers down there. We need to keep SR6 classy. If folk want tack the E2 gets you there.

Always found Shields alright, better night out for a long time in the 80s when our clubs were full of Herrington Millionaires . Done well to hang onto the "seaside " thing ,loads have turned into dumps including Blackpool
