SAS: Rogue Heroes. Sunday, BBC1, 9PM

Think I will read the book again on the back of this.

I mean if you just pause for a second and think about it all, it is absolutely mental and we are the genuine leaders in the field and the thing is the envy of the world.

Is there another book that people would recommend?

It’s a great story, the true ones usually are. Second series into Sicily and Italy itself I hope. The mad bastards.

They need to explore the complex character of paddy mayne.

They won’t. It’s not prime time viewing.

Think Paddy died the year my mam was born. Reputation on the Lions tours of fighting dockers and policeman.

The acting is awful especially Dominic West.
It's more like a comedy.
That French woman spy is so badly cast and her character is a joke.
The scenes where they are blowing up planes and simply placing the bombs on top the wings in plain sight and in the position where they'd do least damage 😂😂😂

I'm trying to stick with it as it must get better. Mustn't it ? 🤷‍♂️

You'll love season Two, starring Elliott Embleton.

I don’t know many other SAS books (only read Rogue Heroes), but everything I’ve read by Ben Mcintyre has been absolutely superb. Agent Zigzag is up there with Rogue Heroes in terms of being incredible, highly recommend it. Currently reading his latest one about Colditz which is also great so far

Enjoyable TV, kind of preferred watching documentaries on the subject than this. Not read the book, but does Paddy come across as mental like in the series? Just seemed OTT for some of it, to the point of a little annoying. I've not seen Peaky Blinders, but some of this came across "Guy Ritchie" type viewing.

My memory of the book made me think they toned his character down haha. Been a while since I read it though and I tend to forget/misremember things

I’ve read loads of Ben McIntyres books and they are all good.

Try Operation Mincemeat.

A truly amazing story.
