We don't have a bottomless pit of money though and having two players for one position is enough. As I said it's quite literally the last position we need to be looking at.

Again I totally agree. Liverpool pressed and harried us all night and not one of our players looked capable when receiving ball under pressure. It's also frightening just how static we are when in possession as well. No movement whatsoever other than Defoe who's movement is top drawer.

You missed the bit where I stated that we would be getting rid of someone in that position to make space in the squad, and as things stand we don't have enough quality in the middle. If a player of better quality can replace a player in the squad do you advocate turning down that option as it isn't the correct order of replacement? Who knows how much money we have, or how much the deal will cost us. Do you think that Sam and the recruitment team will simply spend so much on such a player that we can't afford to get others in who we also need.

Also, a little bit of a contradiction there as you clearly don't rate our players, other than Defo, so why would you be upset about signing a player who could improve us in regard to the inadequacies that you point out?

I'd have him.
Could allow Mvilla to change his role.

Exactly ......... better in the current M'Vila role, takes the heat of Cattermole and we can now collectively move forward up the pitch a little.

M'Vila has far too much skill & vision to waste protecting the back four imo.

Edit: If he signs, obviously.

I think Catt's day has finally come home to roost after his display the other night.....He was caught in possession or had the ball taken off him from Poll players coming in from behind him on no less than 12 occasion. He was caught in possession five times during play where he gave the ball away cheaply or straight to the opposition, not counting the number of unsuccessful passes he made.. The lad from Spurs/QPR would, imo, could possibly do a better job if we don't get a top player in.
:eek::eek::eek:

Decent player, not the best injury record. If we were getting shot of one or two similarly injury prone midfielders it could be worthwhile but if not just means we would probably have another half a season at best player.

Good ability, will he scrap for us?

Good question and the most important question of all imo (underlying assumption being whoever Sam is targeting has proven talent at top flight level).

The last thing we need is another overpaid shitbag jogging around the pitch. I was sat there the other night and could not believe my eyes watching Chodwell trot back after a Liverpool player then just literally gave up.

Difficult one for the gaffer eh? We don't want just scrappers over ability, but we have previous with (supposed) ability and no graft.

This is where Sam really earns his brass imo, a good window and we will be fine, I still think he will bring his old mate in to gee them up.

Cattermole hasnt progressed / matured into the player we thought he might
Temperament has improved but you sense it might boil over
It's a shame as deep down I think he might genuinely get what it means to play for the lads but that's just not enough now

That said I'm not sure if Sandro is an upgrade

I seen that as well. He also got runes ridiculously easy by Firmino before he hit the post if my memory serves. So slow

Hes not what I would go for personally but I could see him doing a better job than Catts.. On thing that struck me again the other night was just how slow our midfield is in all aspects from tackles, passing or pace... nil points.
