Samit imo deserved another chance in the t20 format at CLS. He has been one of this season's star men in the competition and was even more so at finals day.

Dawson does not deserve to be selected, simply down to form and current stats in this format
I suppose the argument could be made that in a one-off T20, you look at the future.
Samet is still in many ways a throwback to a bygone earlier - lads saying they've been for pints with him, bit of timber, slow in the field etc.
Vs Dawson, Crane etc who are very much "modern" cricketers, especially when it comes to the pyjama stuff.

I'd take Samit ahead of Dawson and Crane to Australia. If we go with a second spin option it's between Samit and Rashid. IMO you can't take inexperienced lads there. I'm 50-50 whether to take a second spinner though, not sure where he'd play other than Sydney (if it still turns square there). I'll wait for the Ashes squad thread in a few days...

The only time he runs is to the pavilion at lunch and tea.

This. If I recall Fat Samet was picked for England ODI duty then released straight after "to work on some issues". Few months later he was back in the squad and bombed out within 1 day for "fitness issues". Seems to me that it was decided he wasn't fit enough, which is obviously fair enough because he is overweight.

BUT he was given the chance to lose weight but simply could'nt be arsed. FFS. IMO although he undoubtedly has ability, he is extremely arrogant and seems to think fitness is based on avoiding injury. Of course if your fat and slow you: can't dive full length to avoid being run out when batting and when fielding are incapable of sprinting 50 yards and putting in a 10 yard sliding stop then, miraculously, a few injuries are avoided. A modern day Colin Cowdrey, just not as good a batsman.
