Surely should be considered for a test recall? Arguably good enough as a batsman alone these days, never mind his bowling. Can never have enough all rounders in a team. Drop Westley and have him come in at 7 or 8.

Talented cricketer but let's not go overboard. In his 6 tests he averages 16 with the bat and 60 with the ball

He'd get another chance if he proves he deserves it. England have asked him to get into decent shape, he can't be arsed.

You think Dawson and Ansari were better picks for India?

Edit: forgot Batty :lol::oops:

For me, we need to forget his bowling, don't even consider it at all when picking him, not even 1 per cent, that is where the confusion is

The question for me can he bat in the top 6 for England. Now I mean I, like many others, have seen him a play a lot over the years. You'd have to say he would have a chance of scoring runs, I can't imagine he would be as phased as some of the lads we have picked.

Yeah this is a issue like, as I say above, I would only ever pick him as a batsman, maybe he struggled due to his position and his role. I know what you mean about his shape, although a cricket team can take all sorts.

For a professional athlete to be so overweight is an absolute disgrace. We slag Khazri off yet he looks like Karen Carpenter when compared to that fat fucker.

Football is basically a 90 minute ten mile run. Cricket is played in short bursts and having a few extra pounds is less of a constraint.

WG Grace, Colin Millburn, Botham, Flintoff, Merv Huges, Warne and countless others carried a few pounds.

If you look at baseball there have been some outrageous fat lads, e.g. Babe Ruth, Pablo Sandoval, CC Sabbathia.

I actually agree to an extent, but you could also say would it really take much effort to get himself thinner and fitter. I mean its his job full time, no reason not to and its not even very hard.

All I would say is ask some of the top players in the world about batting for hours in places like Colombo, you lose pounds just through sweat, could he do that? I am not sure he could.

SL, India and Pakistan have also produced a lot of chubsters over the years.

I accept that it's possible to play cricket at a high level whilst carrying a few extra pounds but surely he could improve all aspects of his game if he improved his fitness. The game has moved on these days especially in the area of fielding where cricketers are now becoming real athletes .
Being a fat fucker has held back Patel's career and who knows how many caps he would have if he was a bit more professional.

Thing is, does his weight impact his game that much? He's a very powerful batsman, who you could argue benefits from a bit of bulk. You don't need to be lean to bowl spin, which leaves his fielding, he looked sharp enough for those run outs over the weekend. Yes he's never going to be the quickest in a chase to the boundary but is that really a justification for excluding him?

He seems very comfortable with this game these days and seems to thrive on pressure situations. Given the lack of other options it's a no-brainer to me.

Samit imo deserved another chance in the t20 format at CLS. He has been one of this season's star men in the competition and was even more so at finals day.

Dawson does not deserve to be selected, simply down to form and current stats in this format
