Absolutely no benefit to the club what so ever in selling Defoe, so we won't. £6m isn't anywhere near enough to compensate on what we'd be losing out on and everyone at the club knows this.

Sorry but as much as people want to have a go at the board etc, they still ultimately want what's best for us as it's in their interests. I'm not worried in the slightest about them even entertaining an offer for Defoe.

Kone will leave though without a doubt.

The problem would also be finding a replacement for Defoe who would be willing to sign.

We have two other central strikers on the books.....Anichebe and Borini. We would need to markedly improve our options in other positions if we let Defoe go though.

I wouldn't sell Defoe on his own.....that would be absolutely pointless but in conjunction with Kone it could make sense. Defoe will be worth less every window where Pickford could conceivably be worth more every window. We couldn't give Khazri away currently.....he's f***ing useless this season.

Astronomical?........£18m for Kone and £6m for Defoe.....perfectly reasonable numbers those.

He hasn't played much to even warrant that quote.

As I keep pointing out though we are hamstrung wages wise by FFP and the only way around this is to remove some and/or generate player profit. As regards Defoe it just depends on whether you believe it's possible to improve the team OVERALL if he and/or others are moved on.

If we do nothing we will go down imo....

Tell me a player that we could get in that could adequately fill his boots. Given the poor goal return from the rest of our squad it seems to me that selling him and rejigging the team with lower salaried prospects is dangerous.

The only player we have adequate cover already already is Pickford. If we can do a little bit of tinkering and get a competent midfielder and CH in on loan I'd do that instead of selling anyone. If we cannot I'd sell anyone but Defoe. He is absolutely critical to our survival. Everyone else is disposable on the basis of creating an overall improvement - if Moyes is capable of finding the right players of course.

Its going to be interesting to see whether any of his usual cronies have distanced themselves from him. There could be one or two who want to avoid any scrutiny.

He'll be inundated with dodgy characters he knows waiting to grease the wheels of a shady deal.

Bloke's a shady con-man

Whichever route we go down we will likely face unpalatable sell decisions IF we want to re-jig the team. We disagree about Defoe as I could see a different line-up being more effective than totally relying on one player to score your goals.....we could keep him, do nothing in the transfer window then lose him to injury in the first week of February.

I still say it would be madness to sell Defoe

If there was money to spend and room for wages we wouldn't be having this discussion Janey.....unfortunately there's neither and the question is do we have enough resources to stay up without trading and allowing for the impact of ACON. My view is that we don't so decisions have to be made and its not a case of who we'd like to sell (I'd take £20m for Ndong, Rodwell and Khazri) but that's not going to happen so it's a case of which of our players other clubs are willing to buy.

So the news comes out that BSA has £20 million to spend in the window and the ever diligent and hardworking Echo reporter puts 2 and 2 together and makes a complete load of tripe. End of story.
To be fair to the lad he does point out in the article that it'd take £25m to get Kone alone and that Defoe simply isn't going anywhere. I saw the thread was 5 pages long and worried that there was some substance in it. Should have guessed that it was being padded out with the usual mix of nonsense and histrionics.
