That's why Defoe should never be sold. The money someone would pay for him would be pointless as a replacement of similar quality couldn't be bought.

This. We're in a situation where no one will pay massive money for him because of his age, and we can't accept anything less then massive money for him because he's nearly irreplaceable. It should therefore be the easiest decision in the world to keep a hold of him. If we go down we could still get £6m or so for him at the end of the season, there's absolutely no benefit in selling him now.

I'd keep going anyway but if we sanctioned the sale of Defoe and went down I wouldn't blame anyone who choose never to renew again under this ownership, it would be incompetence and lack of ambition on a grand scale. He remains our best chance of survival and is the one that every single relegation rival would be envious of us for, to sell him would be beyond a joke. Hopefully others are considering bidding and we have no intention of selling, but with us you just never know

We sold bent it got reinvested..badly but reinvested.
We sold gyan and henderson it was reinvested.
Tell us when we have sold anyone that the proceeds were trousered. Hard evidence not 3 drunk lads in a bar evidence.
Show us the hard evidence of a clear business plan from the owner. A one where he has clear objectives and appoints competent people. Not one where he acts on gut instinct and employs cowboys.

Such a none story it's laughable.
15m for a player we refused to accept 18m for 6 months ago and who has signed a new contract.
Doubt we'd d let defoe go for anything less than 10m and no team would pay that for a player who wont see 34 again.

If you think Short hasn't taken money out of the club off the back of those sales you're as much of a clueless f***ing mug as the two-faced fickle morons who are now hoying abuse at Big Sam.

There's always more things to consider from the inside of the club than what we as fans think. Defoe is 34 and taking up a huge chunk of wages. At some stage with him we will be in a position where no other club will match his wages never mind give us a big profit on him.....and the same goes for Kone and Pickford for different reasons. Those three players completely transform our FFP situation and give us almost unlimited scope to increase the wage bill. Let's say Kone and Defoe were sold for £25m.....not only do you have that to spend but it represents around £15m profit on player trading which is one the things that allow you to increase the wage bill over and above the £7m allowed under FFP. We have to accept that player trading (at a profit obviously) is the only way forward for us.

How it's spent is crucial though...a repeat of the summer would probably do for us.
Defoe is one thing we have that others don't, he gives us a competitive edge. Whoever we play, whether it's Chelsea, or Hull, the managers team talk will be about keeping him quiet. There isn't a single reason in the world that justifies selling him.

if Defoe goes we are down , that doesn't m,ake sound financial sense

Again that's too simplistic.....it depends entirely on who replaces him and whether that allows Moyes to implement a formation that makes us more effective overall. We may have seen the best of Defoe and I doubt we will get a second chance to sell at a profit.

We should make sure Defoe knows how much he's wanted here and that he's not for sale.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to string a rival along late in the window making them think they've got a chance and pull the plug when it's too late for them to find another striker.

If they want Kone I'd insist on Scott Dann as part of the deal, good no nonsense defender who gets a goal or two, Defoe cannot be allowed to go regardless of price, and Jermain if you are reading this, just think of little Bradley's face if you leave.....
Scott Dann, no f***ing thanks.

Defoe made him look stupid last season.

All those advocating selling either Defoe or Kone are not true supporters.

simplistic or not hes our only chance

I've just given you reasons mate. You might not like them but I guarantee that Moyes and Bain are looking at ways to generate some funds for January.....and that might include the sale of any/all of our saleable assets.

A struggling club selling one of the best strikers in the country in January is madness. But I don't expect much from people who chose to sign Ndong and McNair instead of M'Vila.

They did a terrible job in the summer. You can't guarantee anything.

Of course they will be. I'm not naive enough to think we're going to spend like we did last January. However replacing Defoe would cost more than selling him would save, it would make no sense what so ever.
