One thing I didn't put there which is obviously relevant though is the age of the players. While Wyke and Cole are on paper the 'weakest', they're also the youngest and you'd expect them to improve.

Billy Sharp in League One a goal every 1.7 games
Eoin Doyle in League One a goal every 1.6 games
Sam Baldock in League One a goal every 2.5 games
Charlie Wyke in League One a goal every 3.5 games
Devante Cole in League One a goal every 4.6 games
Peterborough had a bid accepted for Doyle apparently, 300k, but he turned it down. We should be in for him at that price.

Transfer out from Brighton will depend on Brighton signing Jahanbakhsh (winger) and an English central defender. Sam Baldock could still make the cut of 25 players?

More likely to depart:

Jirí Skalák (winger)
Tomer Hemed (target man forward)
Oliver Norwood (midfield)

Have many games did he play last season?
Plus, you only need a squad of 23.

Aye but Donald didn’t either sign him or authorise the contract extension. He’d be a great signing but it just looks really unlikely imo....we couldn’t persuade a L2 player to come here last week.

Not quite true - we never agreed a fee with his club, so we never spoke to him at all. With hindsight, it's obvious that Cheltenham were simply moving the goalposts for both Pompey and us in hopes of a bidding war until Bristol came in with a bid 50% higher than anything previously quoted.

No games last season, got injured at the arse end of the promotion season when he played:

Sam Baldock 27 (4) Goals 11 Assists 4

Jirí Skalák 24 (7) Goals 0 Assists 5
Tomer Hemed 20 (17) Goals 11, incl pens
Oliver Norwood 16 (17)

Squad total of 23 is a bit thin w/o youngsters in the 38 game Premier League. 4 is average out mid-season and 7 injured players is very feasible. Brighton had 7 players out injured for the whole of their promotion season. A big squad was key. Now well overloaded.

In the Championship it is suicidal low with 46+ games. 26 absolute minimun

PS: Newcastle and Fulham squads looking a bit thin on quantity this summer

NB: Baldock is not as good as Buckley, nothing special about him at all, but he is versatile and would probably cause havoc in League One defences.

Sam Baldock - History

I like the player for his running off the ball and with a goal in the Championship every 180 minutes (2 games) his record is not too bad at all. But at first his wayward shooting annoyed me.

Baldock 29 years old is the wrong age! I think he wants to have a last chance in the Premier League as injuries prevented him last season. On the other hand Hemed wants to leave for LaLiga (Spain). He might still get a chance as Glenn Murray was always slow and now he is struggling to keep up.

Always thought of Baldock as a bit injury prone.

If you mean Eisa then you are twisting it a bit mind. He chose a championship side. It wasn't a case of not not being able to convince someone to sign for us even though we are in a higher league.

Aye, but this is asking a player to DROP two leagues AND more than likely take a pay cut. I’ll show my arse in Joplings window if there’s anything in this.

Watched him at MK dons a few times when he was a youngster. Not the tallest, but he’s experienced and could be a good addition to the squad if his fitness is managed properly. Wages though?

Yes I agree with that. Can't see him signing at all. Just thought it was a bit harsh to suggest we cannot attract league 2 players.

Because he got an offer from a promotion chasing Championship team. Don't let facts get in way!
