My lad is in the process of moving clubs to Sacriston CC, initially until the end of the season, and I was wondering what people's thoughts are on them. I've had a look on the Play Cricket website and virtually all of their teams seem to be top or second in the leagues they are in. Now of course an NEPL club.

They seem keen to move lads up through the age groups and challenge them and they also seem to be run by former or current cricketers. Ian Hunter is currently the pro there and I understand that he also does some of the junior coaching. I'm making an educated guess therefore that they have a really good set up?

Finally anyone have any inside information on whether some of the NTSL junior teams might come into the new DCB structure in the next year or two?

Thanks for any information.

Don't know what its like these days but always used to have a decent youth set up. Over the years supplied quite a few players to the Academy. Melvyn Betts would probably be their best player they have produced who went on to play for Durham and Ian Hunter was very pacey as a teenager although left Durham in his early 20s and played for Derbyshire for a few years.

During my cricket career Sacriston were always one of the very best clubs for juniors to play and be given opportunities in senior cricket. I doubt things have changed it was always the ethos of the club from my memory.

Eppleton development team have played up there today and in a high scoring game we've beaten them they had lots of very talented youngsters including 3 county under 13's who look very good:lol: have to say today that our youngsters were better:-D

My lad will likely be playing with them next week. Makes his debut for Sacriston U13s at Annfield Plain next Sunday. Just had it confirmed. He is there initially til the end of the season too see if he likes it. I'm sure he will do. Very much looking forward too seeing him playing for his new club.

As everyone else is thinking it but not saying it, why are you moving him?
A variety of reasons that its not fair to go into.

Trust me Sacriston is a great choice for any young cricketer in the area. As you probably already know the teams throughout junior levels are successful, but more importantly than that, the kids are coached and guided in the correct way.

Ignoring results you just need to watch the young lads who play to see they have been coached well, playing very correct cricket shots, bowling with good actions, and fielding very well. On top of that there is a core of 4 or 5 excellent lads who run the junior structure between them, and the ethos of the club is really to get these lads ready to play 1st team cricket at some point in the future, even going further if things go really well.

Even looking beyond the junior section the 1st XI is a group of 10 lads who all played junior cricket for the club (a few of whom still are), along with 1 professional.
