"Ryan [Noble] was very, very positive. He made a big impact. He tried to get hold of it, he didn't give it away, he played a superb little ball through [for the equalizer], and then his goal was absolutely fantastic."

Very telling that MON noted his hold-up play before anything else. Big clue there about what he primarily looks for in a forward.

Great words - masterclass in instilling confidence in a young player

If he's been specifically working on that part of his game, then with his pace, movement and that knack of being in the right place at the right time, then he's got to have a good chance of making it with us under O'Neill.

Wonder if MON will try and develop him into a wider striker. The lad could be lethal cutting inside on his right foot given his movement.

I would love nothing more than this lad to make it.

MON is not usually big on youth, but with Financial Fair play, and with us building the barn and getting grade 1 academy status, you wonder if youth is our priority.

Lets see how he does for the rest of pre-season.

The big problem is , we have noble, campbell, wickham, Ji,all young or youngish but none good enough to start, so they will be used sparingly, which means we can't keep all 4.

Frazier is a good lad but I just don't see him being a long term threat for us.

I think he just didn't care about the result.

As for Noble, O'Neill was raving about him after the match and seemed more impressed with his all round play than he was for the goal and his involvement in the second goal.

Needs a full 90 minutes during pre-season now, with a strong team behind him.

Agreed Hartlepool should be the perfect game for him:)

Agree,

McClean, Larsson, Sess.

Stick Noble upthere, see how he does.

Friendlys are about getting fit, but also about learning things.

I think he has a good look at the rest of them, give him a start, see how he goes.

Possibly, he could definitely play that role but he'd really flourish in a front two with someone like Fletcher and I think if he played any wider he'd struggle to get in behind as much.

Could be a suprise package this season imo, who knows. There are striker slots up for grabs

The lad certainly knows where the goal is

What? I said I don't think he'd make a Premier league striker long term. He has started about 6 games in his career and is 21.

Good goal but 1 goal in a friendly changes absolutely nothing. When he starts to do it in the PL or championship I'll admit I was wrong. I have no problem with him being in the squad, I just don't expect too much from him.

Are you sure noble is 21???

On SAFC it said he was 19:eek:

I agree, I just struggle to see MON playing with a front two.

The little cameo today reminded me of a certain Gary Shaw who played at Villa in the 80s.

Yes it was in a friendly but you can hope. Certainly he has pace and knows where the net is. Those are building blocks on which great strikers can emerge..without them they haven't a chance.

Given our current situation with strikers then even a small glimmer of hope shouldn't be pissed upon. Young strikers who score lots of goals don't always step up and make it. But they make it a hell of a lot more often than young strikers who don't score goals. There are rare players who dont really look very good but always score goals..Gerd Muller, Brian Clough, Darren Bent. Noble probably isn't one...but you never know. Worth withholding criticism until we find out.

He did the best job possible in the time he was on the pitch. For that he should be applauded and given more of a chance to do it regularly.

It was a very good goal and refreshing to see a striker with his back to goal actually turn and run at the defenders HOWEVER need i remind everyone that Frazier Campbell scored 4 goals YES 4 goals in a pre-season game against Hull, regardless of his injuries which have been horrendous, this should serve as a warning not to go overboard about the lads chances for the coming season.

Can any of them play LB;)

That is a good point but it wouldn't be the first time strikers have been used as wingers.

We certainly need some pace in the team and Noble seems to have that.
