A mate who watches Sunderland more than I get chance always says that "Ryan Noble is not very good, average at best" and his judgement is one I would trust. He wont change his mind based on 1 goal in a friendly out in Asia.

Your mate probably read that on here.

I saw Noble play against Barrow and he looked decent, the rest of the times he has come on as sub he hasn't made much of an impact and looked light weight

today was the best I have seen him play, he looked stronger, held the ball up well, made good runs and his goal was sublime

he has give himself half a chance, whaterver your mate says the lad has ability otherwise he wouldn't score a goal like that.

looks very light though

I don't know if the poster is saying this with his tongue in his cheek but it has been said on so many occasions that it is view held by a great many posters. The fact is this kind of talk is pure horseshit based on the old adage "a good biggun will always beat a good littlun." This is the stupid attitude that has kept English football so far behind the rest of Europe and has consigned so many small players to the scrapheap at the expense of huge no skill cloggers

I don't want to go through loads of examples of slight footballers who have made it but just to give two. The goal that Noble scored was very reminiscent of the goals that Michael Owen used to score for fun before the injuries. Also look at some of the footage of Kevin Phillips when he first arrived at Sunderland. The shirt looks massive on him. I know he he bulked up more throughout his time but he was hardly big at any time of his career.

I personally have seen Noble and know that he divides opinion but two things he does well that no-one else does at our club is play off the shoulder of the last defender with pace and has a passion for putting the ball in the back of the net.

I think the lad's got a future in this game if he has the right attitude.

Trust this forum to go overboard again, a 92nd goal against a knackered not very good team in a friendly and he's the next Michael Owen.

This for me too. I know it's preseason and against a tired side later on, but he was stronger and looked better in possesion than what I've seen previously.

Good awareness to set up the second goal and a clinical finish for the third.

Has anyone actually said he's the next Michael Owen? Or just this goal was similar to a famous goal scored by Owen?
