Re: Goal machine Noble

And build.

People on here bang on all the time about how the English game only allows big lads to shine and academies don't give the smaller lads a chance because of their build and then say the same shite when people mention Noble.

"not big enough"
"too lightweight"
"needs to put on some size like"
"blah blah"

Keep saying it. Michael Owen looked about 12 and Modric looks about 8. Both fantastic players. There are many many out there in the same boat. Ability is what we should look for, not what they look like..

Totally agree. We constantly get pissed on at International level because we dont have the skill, guile or ability to keep possession. Yet our fans constantly harp on about speed and size.

I had no idea Nobles record was that good and you cant really argue with those kind of stats. The lad is obviously a natural and players like that dont need to be holding the ball up or knock centre halves all over the place. Thats what players like Bendtner are for. Noble just has to be busy around the box and keep chasing any causing like Phillips did in his early days. The lad cant do any more ate reserve level and should be brought in to develop.

Disagree about Owen mind. He had a young face but he was physically mature at that age. Short and strong.

Weve missed a finisher since Bent fucked off. Get the lad in.

On the continent they take young footballers and try and make them into athletes, we take athletes and try and make them footballers.

Re: Goal machine Noble

If you're not in the first team, all you can do is perform for the reserves, so he must have earned his chance. Unbelievable record that.

At the moment it's the proponents of Noble as a starter who keep bringing up his physique. You can certainly list many players with rather weak physique who have made it in the Premier League. You can also certainly list a whole lot of youth strikers who have banged them in for the reserves but gone on to look out of their depth in the Premier League.

That he has practically no experience whatsoever of professional football is the reason why the suggestion that he should be starting up front on his own on Sunday is absurd.

Re: Goal machine Noble

I'm usually one for bringing young lads in slowely (last 20 mins etc). But we need a threat down the middle, and he's in blistering form.

Hoy him in. Can always take him off after 60mins if it doesn't click for him.

Re: Goal machine Noble

I've always felt (in the short spells Ive seen him) that he looked a bit too frail and allied to that I couldn't really see much potential in him - no obvious blistering pace, technique etc, though he does look positive and direct and has a bit of pace. Due to what we had at the time I could never really have seen him breaking into the first team squad or making it in the top flight.

Now though he's bang in form for the ressies and nevermind if I think he's going to be a Premiership footballer or not, he deserves a place because he's a threat and someone that will occupy defenders and attack the penalty area, nomatter how many goals he goes on to score in the top flight and also because now I believe (for various reasons) he's capable of doing a job easily as good as the others we have up front at the moment. Get the lad in, rather have that, a positive move, than the woeful half arsed partnership we witnessed last weekend.

Many years ago - Rowell, Arnott and Elliott were all chucked in at this kind of stage. And it worked.

Give the kid a shot, as others have said there's nothing like a striker on a scoring streak

Agreed, there's only one way to get experience and that's by playing, and with our options short at the minute he should be in the starting line up.

Re: Goal machine Noble

Kevin Phillips was built like a brick shithouse

In comparison to Noble he absolutely was, Phillips was and is a very stocky and extremely strong for his size player.

I dont go along with it's just physique that stops you being a Premiership footballer, it's also if you haven't got enough in the rest of your game. I dont think Noble will ever be a regular Premiership footballer because he lacks a bit of both - I'm more than willing to give him the chance to prove me wrong though, hopefully starting with this weekend.

Re: Goal machine Noble

Totally agree with everyone saying that he deserves his chance - looks to be a fantastic natural goalscorer. However, sick and tired of people saying that Modric Looks 8, Owen was only small, look at Messi etc etc. Messi is diminutive, but he is solid as fuck, and all of those players have a very low centre of gravity, meaning that they are difficult to get off the ball. Noble is a lanky streak of piss, which is a difficult thing altogether. Still think it could work though - he knows where the back of the net is and we don't exactly have a lot of players who can say that about themselves

Re: Goal machine Noble

Have to agree like.

He could be our own Micky Owen. He was built like a 5 year old too but could put the ball away. Nobody complained that he was too lightweight and was a waste of space having wingers knocking balls into the box.

Give him a chance. Can't be any worse than having Sess upfront and totally blunting his game to boot.

Bentdner also needs a striker to play off and create chances for. He isn't, and never has been, a scoring sensation like some of our fans think.

He was blessed with searing pace though. How quick is Noble?

Stan Cummins was one of the smallest players I've seen play for us but no one could deny his quality. Noble deserves a chance.

Re: Goal machine Noble

I'm sure being dropped for a kid who's hardly played competitive football will do wonders for Ji's confidence. Would be a great follow up to being dropped in for the Arsenal game Bruce told the world he would start.

So if it doesn't work out for Noble? His confidence gone. Ji's confidence shattered. Bendtner injured. But hey, at least it was a positive move.

What exactly is your opinion on how we should get more goals?

So we stick with Ji in fear of hurting his feelings? More bothered about winning games myself and the young lad will probably never be in better goalscoring form. Might work, might not but Ji has shown nothing so far.

Ji's played a handful of games in the Premier League. He's not got any god-given right to start a match at this level at all.

What a load of bollocks that is. Why else do players get dropped? because they not doing the business, it should give him the kick up the arse to get his head down and work harder to improve and get back in the team. Noble deserves a chance.

Why on earth would Ji expect to start the game, let alone be devastated if he didn't?
