The EU has provided financial support following the coup but afaik, had no other involvement. There's evidence that the US was frustrated with the EU's patient approach and went over their heads.

Didn't Obama and his government's foreign policy start all this Ukrainian mess? Obama in the eyes of the democrats didn't put a foot wrong in his presidency. All governments make mistakes and plenty of them.

I think it was successive governments mate. They'd spent 20 years since Ukraine independence propping up corrupt governments. It was under Obama's watch that Yanukovich got to power on an anti-corruption ticket and intent to join the EU as associate member.
When he dallied, the yanks got impatient and Victoria Nuland, acting for the State Department, forced him out.
