The USA launch system is far more direct. He literally has a button & also the executive power to replace any official who won't concur. Russia is more decentralised (which has its own risks).

Would almost certainly escalate to nukes. As soon as one side knows they're losing they'll use em. To declare war allows Putin to say he was right.

A button ffs

I think the Yanks have a nuclear football that always follows Biden around.

Literally carried by a soldier next to him. Looks like a leather man bag. Imagine your full time job being carrying that thing everywhere.

Inside it is a large phone that he would use to call the military to start the process. Its not a button.

Seen similar about Putin

‘A small briefcase, known as the Cheget, is kept close to the president at all times, linking him to the command and control network of Russia's strategic nuclear forces. The Cheget does not contain a nuclear launch button but rather transmits launch orders to the central military command - the General Staff.’

every little helps

Doesn’t really matter. It’s utterly bizarre to me that in this day and age we have someone walking around with a man next to him with a cheap looking carry case from which he could literally destroy the planet in minutes.

I agree and the thought of it makes me feel sick.

“Hunny, do you know where I left my Cheget when I got in from work last night? Oh, it’s ok, the kids have got it…”

Again, the Ukrainians are embedded in these areas and are being shelled/bombed. In regards to a tank shooting someone in a window, said tank is in a warzone, sees someone in a dangerous position relative to them and shoots? Possible explanation.
you've just described a war crime

Translation: 'Somebody should do something - but not me'

Not really, no. I understand the snide tone you're trying to take here, but it doesn't make a great deal of sense.

Why on earth would any western country commit it's untrained civilians to a foreign conflict, rather than it's trained professional military? You do realise that carrying out military exercises are what a military is for, yeah? It's why we all pay to have one?

If someone was to say "the NHS should be carrying out operation sover weekends, to help clear the post-Covid back log", would your answer be "well feel free to grab a scalpel and start cutting people up yourself"?

Fun fact: it’s named after Mount Cheget, a year round ski resort in the Caucasus mountains.
