Who is going to buy the gold when they’re sanctioned from near enough every corner of the western world?

I was quite surprised to read about the size of Ukraine's armed forces. I'd assumed the Russian 190k would outnumber them by multiples but apparently they have 200k active plus another 700k reservists. Throw in the general population arming themselves and that's substantial resistance. Obviously the Russians have greater weapons capability and that for me is the worry, I don't think they can win a war fighting street by street, town by town and ultimately they'll resort to more destructive weapons.

The best thing the West can do imo is to keep the flow of more advanced weapons going into Ukraine.
Read a really interesting piece on Russian re and then de-armament last night

Basically around the turn of the decade Russia was undergoing a really thorough and effective reform of its military. But it was too effective for Putin who purged the guy responsible.

His replacement and current head of the military is a) not a slav so and b) understands to keep his job he needs to be popular, so when he came in and he basically neutered the military which was scaring Putin and has kept it under thumb for that reason since

Second point it made was that Putin has managed multiple "special operations" successfully which is modern innuendo for war, but nonetheless its always been against separatists and interest groups.

This is a traditional clauswitzian land war closer to the sort fought in WW2. As a comparison when Hitler invaded Poland there were three echelons- one to take ground as soon as possible and then two two secure it and supply lines immediately afterwards.

This Rusdian offence has one echelon in its entirety.

Im not up on nuclear capabities and stuff like that, so am I wrong to assume if he fired something, Nato and us have the ability to block and render it useless?
Back in the 80s the US made a big deal of their “Star Wars Program”, aka Global Defence Initative involving lasers, anti-missile missiles and all kinds of fancy counter-measures that had the USSR bricking it.

Sadly it wasn’t all it was made out to be, but it led to anti-missile measures like Israel’s Arrow 3 or the US Aegis which could theoretically shoot down a nuke.

Could it shoot down 6000 nukes simultaneously if Putin went for world destruction?

The world will never be the same again. When the yanks dropped the bomb in Japan it was to end the war. This one would be totally different
Or it was the first blow in the cold war - it depends who you ask. What is beyond doubt is the first bomb may have been aimed at Japan. The second was to show the world (esp. the USSR) that it wasn't a one off.

Won't know until its tested. But obviously of all the military technology to develop, its the silver bullet because it renders the enemy's biggest weapon useless. So there won't be a shortage of options which claim to have this as their goal.
