Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Yet in the initial stage of the invasion 70 missiles were fired from the 'neutral' Belarus into Ukraine.

Lukashenko is owned by Putin and could have potentially lost power had Putin not sent him his troops to quash the uprising.

That said Lukashenko won’t want to do this. Belarussians arguably have closer relations with Ukrainians then even Russians do it will be very unpopular. He will get hammered by sanctions and if that does all lead to internal rebellion he will have just sent most of his troops out the country…

If it happens it’s because Putin has made him an offer he can’t refuse.

Here's the problem: of all the places in the world that the US could put bioweapons labs - within its own borders, within its own allied states like NATO, within friendly EU places - why would it put them in a volatile country that has switched between pro-Russian and pro-Western governments several times, and then for good measure stick them in the Russian-leaning areas of the country where they are most vulnerable to capture or espionage?

It's an incredible enough assertion that the burden of proof weighs rather heavily on one side and it's hard to take seriously someone who asks that the side not bearing the burden of proof somehow prove a negative.
It's Russian propoganda twisting facts. Since 2005 the US government has been funding labs in Ukraine to "prevent the proliferation of dangerous pathogens and related expertise and to minimize potential biological threats," not develop weapons. Link to the treaty below.

Fact check: False claim of US biolabs in Ukraine tied to Russian disinformation campaign

Like do it or you’re dead?

I never reply to his posts. I apologise for being goaded by his claptrap. But this thread is my go to on this issue
Funny thing was it was my post he was responding to and I didn't have the faintest clue what he was on about (I don't read the Brexit threads) so I just skipped right over it.

Agree this thread is generally very useful.

I have already answered this in other posts. You would need to know what assurances were made to Russia, by NATO, regarding their intentions towards Ukraine. Also what diplomacy there has been leading up to the invasion. Given they have been able to dish out some severe punishment to Russia, from the off, I am not sure I agree that they were peace loving under the surface. I would say more than meets the eye. But then I suppose, given 2014, that would be expected.
Having a functioning military and wanting peace are not mutually exclusive
"speak quietly and carry a big stick"

Although I think the talk of WWIII is a bit dramatic it’s worth noting there are a few other potential flash points bubbling up.

It was quietly mentioned yesterday that because of Ukraine the Iran/P6 talks are now on indefinite hold. Not sure how long Israel will tolerate this as it’s always been a time bomb before they have to act if we assume that Iran are working towards nukes. And if anything has drawn the importance of stopping them into question it’s the last two weeks.

NK have also been spotted rebuilding their nuclear testing tunnels as apparently the new SK leadership is a lot more hardline.

Then of course we have Taiwan and India accidentally shot a rocket into Pakistan earlier just for good measure.

Most of those are a long way off open conflict but Israel and Iran probably not and is worth watching. Israel don’t like the JCPOA anyway but now without ongoing negotiations it effectively gives them the green light To act unilaterally and then God knows what happens in the Middle East with Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria
