As Russia threatened any third country with apocalyptic consequences if they intervened as it was between Russia and Ukraine, if Belarusian troops invade should we still do nothing.

Ah... But... Belarus have now been clearly attacked by an aggressive & dangerous Ukraine now so that's not the same.

A third Russian major general has been killed in the fighting in Ukraine, Western officials said.

They did not confirm the name of the deceased, but an hour earlier, Ukraine’s armed forces said that Maj Gen Andriy Kolesnikov had been killed in the fighting.

Western intelligence estimate that around 20 major generals would have been committed to the invasion of Ukraine, implying a relatively high casualty rate during the two-week long invasion, which they suggested was because they were deployed unusually close to front lines.

That could, in the words of one official, indicate that Russian troops in the front line “are unable to make decisions on their own, lack situational awareness or...are fearful of moving forward”.

Kolesnikov was the commander of Russia’s 29th Combined Arms Army.

Hey if that's how you like to do things, good for you.
It is how I like to do it. It is one of the things I like most about being incredibly well educated and informed.

I like the ability to rapidly identify fact from falsehood and to interpret information. Just wish everyone could do it.

Equally, when it is clear or even just a possibility that false information is being given by politicians or that media report is misleading or fake news I like being able to research the data and fact check.

Must be very strange being in your head. When the news says “it is 7am on Friday 11th March” do you go on a Reddit forum to discuss whether it really is 7am on Friday 11th March or if the ‘globalist MSM’ are lying for some unknown purpose?

I would support UN troops going to Myanmar to protect the Rohingyas.

Of course shock and awe and civilian deaths were awful, abhorrent and saddening. No one has said anything otherwise.

No civilian death counts more or less than any other. That’s why Yemen and Syria and so many places are such sad stories of human suffering.

Given we agree about civilian deaths it is better to talk about the Russian invasion which you still seem to be trying to justify. There is no justification for the Russian invasion.

Russia sent tens of thousands or troops with tanks and artillery into a neighbouring democratic country that was just acting like a normal free democratic country providing no threat to Russia. There was no ethnic cleansing, genocide, or murderous dictator to remove. Ukraine was just a normal functioning democracy. That is why the invasion is wrong and completely unjustified.

Ukraine was providing as much threat and challenge to Russia as Ireland does to the UK. And it is beyond all conceivability that the UK would invade Ireland.

Do you think the invasion was wrong?

Do you want the Russians to leave (whether through negotiation or force)?

Do you accept Ukraine’s right to be an independent country making its own decisions?
What arms, training by NATO Forces and other support have been going in to Ireland?

Why am I being asked whether I support the Russian invasion? Where have I said that I do? Why is calling for full context the same as supporting the invasion?

Whether I accept Ukraine's right to this or that is irrelevant. In theory I do, of course. But in practice, is it that simple? If it was that simple, I don't think we would be witnessing these events. So I ask you, has Ukraine been badly advised? Would it have been better to avoid war or not? Did NATO go vmback on any previous assurances it had communicated to Russia?

Are you aware that Putin described the west as an evil empire? You mention the civilian deaths in other places. It's been alleged that the total amount of deaths attributable to the wars post 9/11 is 380,000 (in 20 years). I would have to check whether that is all deaths or just civilian deaths.

All kinds of the untold misery has resulted from these interventions. But apparently it was OK - because it was against 'dictators'. Some of whom had been built up in the first place, by the west, because it suited their aims at the time!

Fair play to you for sticking by your guns re Myanmar. But what about China?
I think Russia may have believed their own rhetoric that Ukrainians felt Russian and would potentially just roll over. Now they're being attacked from civilians, but hey, that's war for you.
I agree, I cannot believe their intelligence has been so shit. They have been savaged.

What other side is there? Forget Russia’s perceived grievances or past wars, the simple nub of the matter is this:

Russia invaded a peaceful, non-threatening, functioning and democratic, neighbouring country and it was wrong of them to do so.

What other side are you claiming there is? That they didn’t invade? Or that it wasn’t wrong?
I have already answered this in other posts. You would need to know what assurances were made to Russia, by NATO, regarding their intentions towards Ukraine. Also what diplomacy there has been leading up to the invasion. Given they have been able to dish out some severe punishment to Russia, from the off, I am not sure I agree that they were peace loving under the surface. I would say more than meets the eye. But then I suppose, given 2014, that would be expected.
