In my my mind it does show they expect a short lived conflict, I can't imagine they'd be over the moon driving business further East.
You've posted exactly my thoughts, although of course much better 😊 The one glimmer is that the institutions see it as a shortlived conflict, certainly don't want business heading more Eastwards.
I'll take that as a compliment on a Saturday night after a few jars!

Agree it suggests it is expected to be relatively short-lived, as you can't really reverse these decisions mid war.

However, one of the most common, almost universal, phenomenon of war is that everyone massively underestimates how long it will last for. I seem to remember a study that said people typically under estimate how long they will last by a factor of 5-10x.

The obvious loophole is that Visa cards issued from Russian institutions will still work in Russia.

It just means foreign Visa cards won't work in Russia and Russian Visa cards won't work elsewhere.
This.

It will probably not be that significant for most ordinary folk who live in Russia.

I would have thought that if Visa and Mastercard block them they won't work anywhere?

But they have not blocked all transactions on all cards.

Once complete all transactions initiated with Visa cards issued in Russia will no longer work outside the country and any Visa cards issued by financial institutions outside of Russia will no longer work within the Russian Federation.

Well they can’t sell hard currency, so it will be hugely inflationary

I don’t know either. The hard part of me says that it’s their government doing this. But it’s really hard
It's so difficult. I think this way maybe the best way to end the war, some sort of uprising but I do feel for the normal Russian people who don't want this and lets be honest had no choice in it.

The actions are having a huge impact on the populace, not to mention the conscripts being killed. Russia is going to collapse into poverty. Should we fund the recovery of the country in the next 10 years?

Question for tomorrow not today, but difficult moral and ethical questions to be faced.
The only way we should fund it is with captured Yachts and owt of Putins we find.
Would rather send our funds to Ukraine for sure. We supported Germany rebuild after ww2 and they came back stronger than us eventually so dont want to risk that with Ruskies!

Watching BBC. A lot of Russians waiting in line to fuck off across the border into Finland, to escape Martial Law if Putin brings it in.

Then there's the question of Russian reparations to rebuild Ukraine. Confiscated assets from western institutions?
