When they had such disregard for the power plants, surely we can declare war. It potentially affects us all and I have no doubt a professional western army would completely smash them.

Cards issued in Russia won’t work anywhere
Cards issued anywhere won’t work in Russia

I think anyway
With this action, cards issued by Russian banks will no longer be supported by the Mastercard network. And, any Mastercard issued outside of the country will not work at Russian merchants or ATMs.

Assume this will create a massive demand for cash, which will run out quickly across the country, the Russian central bank will not be able to restock it (unless they can do something like sell and physically drive gold to China to prop up the currency).

Rapid economic collapse. There's going to be a massive humanitarian problem in Russia soon, which assuming Putin digs in will create a real question for the west in terms of innocent Russians being pushed into poverty. Should we do this relentlessly? I dont know.

Well they can’t sell hard currency, so it will be hugely inflationary

I don’t know either. The hard part of me says that it’s their government doing this. But it’s really hard

No, we support the general populace. It’s the right thing to do. And it will expose Putin even more so.

Still challenges to overcome, but the mechanisms are in place. We are unbelievably fortunate that the Russian army is failing as much as it is otherwise we would have had to step in using other means.

I agree, but when those that try to protest or speak out are arrested, locked up beaten, threatened etc domestically, what chance do they have?

Looks like the plan is to force an uprising domestically to bring change, which I think is far better than all out traditional warfare.

I’m not denying it’s horrific. It’s also horrific in North Korea. But I don’t know what the good answer is. I don’t think there is one

In my my mind it does show they expect a short lived conflict, I can't imagine they'd be over the moon driving business further East.

You've posted exactly my thoughts, although of course much better 😊 The one glimmer is that the institutions see it as a shortlived conflict, certainly don't want business heading more Eastwards.

The actions are having a huge impact on the populace, not to mention the conscripts being killed. Russia is going to collapse into poverty. Should we fund the recovery of the country in the next 10 years?

Question for tomorrow not today, but difficult moral and ethical questions to be faced.

Probably. But it’s still what, 2% of the worlds population.

It isn’t an issue with the Russian people, must be pretty shit just trying live your day to day with that pussy and his long table being in charge. What a wimp.

The visa and Mastercard news is huge and great. We really do look like we can cripple Russia without firing a shot.

But Putin will be like a wounded animal so a massive worry how he reacts.
