Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

refueling a stealth spy plane that's flown over Kiev no doubt

Do they even need to do that these days? The rumour is the Global Hawks are so powerful they don’t even need to cross the border to collect all the visual intelligence on Russia’s movements that’s valuable

What on Earth does “there is always radar, sonar” mean in this context?

Do you understand what enforcing a no fly zone - as per Ukraine’s request - actually entails?!

Would we be employing sonar here to make sure no Russian submarines enter Ukrainian airspace? Chitty Chitty Sub Sub?

i do, and i'm not sure its the panacea that people appear to think it is

for reasons that i cant quite fathom (Russian ineptitude maybe) - Ukraine appear to be doing very well in the air part of this war

a no-fly zone means enforcing a keep out for both sides, no planes, no drones (no missiles??) - if you try to be sneaky and enforce it for one side only then you've gone from escalation, to f*ck me escalation

a one-sided no-fly zone is'nt a no-fly zone, its a declaration of war

Agreed. And it’s what the Ukrainians have asked us to go in to Ukraine and enforce, so they’re obviously confident that clear skies would be a much bigger problem for Russian than for them.

How do you think aircraft are tracked?

Yes I do. Do you?

And yet again you dodge a question.
I'm putting him on ignore, IMHO he isn't adding anything.
Not with sonar, that’s for f***ing sure. Unless it’s flying submarines you’re expecting us to look out for.

And you appear to have in any event, confused monitoring and enforcing.
Onto ignore, I don't think you add anything worth reading.

Not confused at all, they have to be monitored, usually by radar, and enforced by aircraft

4th time you have avoided answering my question.

Did you even read that before you posted it? How would a system of internal flight monitoring sonar help the external enforcement of a no fly zone?

Did you just type “airplane sonar” in to Google and post the first thing that popped up?:lol:

Are you honestly going to double down and keep digging this hole for yourself? I mean, be my guest if you want to…..

If you also think we’d be looking for flying submarines pal, then ignore away. It’s probably for the best :lol:

If it’s there, it’s there because somethings else is there without their transponders on.

Interestingly there’s a Ukrainian registered plane just landed at that airport from Amari airbase in Estonia. A NATO base from which the US has operated Operation Atlantic Resolve from since 2015.

Was the tanker nearby supporting an escort?
Forgive my ignorance but how do other aircraft know who's about them if they've all got their transponders off?

I saw that last time, what the fuck???
massive Persimmon site between Silky hall and Cavalier, the Oaks pub site all built up, Doxy Park sprouting up in every direction.i wouldn't bet against the pigeon crees and allotments at the top end being demolished and built on

they're making little headway so far in pacifying Ukraine, and you think they'll easily force a wedge through Poland / Lithuania

that seems to completely ignore the current capabilities of Russia, to say nothing about Article 5 commitments

despite some posters on here thinking 'Biden is weak, why wont he do something' - Russia aggression against Poland would see them roflstomped - you dont fly B52's around the area with transponders on unless you're making a point

this is the big difference between defending Ukraine and defending Poland - without the treaty commitments IRO Ukraine it would be spun as 'warmongering Uncle Sam upto his old tricks', but supporting treaty commitments is 'protecting the free world'

whether we like it or not there are political realities to consider..

I hope you're right.

However we're less than 2 weeks into this and the Russians are likely in for the long haul now.

There's going to be a few twists and turns along the way
