Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES) - Please put sensitive content behind a spoiler

impressive bit of kit that! Was that a drone sending coordinates to something that can attack, or is it a drone doing both? Or neither?

It's just a normal drone being used as a spotter, then relaying their position on a map and getting the co-ordinates for a mortar attack or missiles or whatever

A good thread here on twitter and the author is arguably my favourite expert on there.

All good points but UK/EU/NATO members worked hard to transition the Ukraine military from the shapeless post-USSR outfit that got battered in 2014 to the western, NCO-led defence force it is now

Various countries including UK and US trained troops to use NLAW, Javelin and Stinger missiles

Turkey introduced them to drones and were developing a joint Ukrainian version to mass produce before the invasion

REAKINGRussia to focus war on eastern Ukraine - Russian army chief

The chief of the Russian army says Russia will now focus its main war effort on the "complete liberation" of the eastern Ukrainian Donbas region.
The defence ministry said Russia had been considering two options for its "special military operation" - one covering the whole of Ukraine and one focusing on the Donbas.
The comments - carried by Russian state news agencies - hinted at a possible downgrading of Russia's war aims. Russian forces have met strong resistance in the north of Ukraine and around Kyiv.

New thread as the old one was getting a bit leggy!

Just a reminder that this thread on the SMB is primarily for News and updates only - comments are welcome of course, but please try to refrain from posting anything likely to get a debate going - there is a sister thread for that exact purpose in Politics. If the thread runs too far in that direction, the posts will just be lost purely to get it back on track.

That’s his get out of jail card, effectively guaranteeing Crimea ongoing security form nazis by establishing a land bridge and the liberation of the donbas people from Nazi control, you can see Russian tv singing his praises now

What was phase 1 goals? To look like a bunch of amateurs, cause as much destruction as possible, loose shit loads of equipment and turn virtually the whole world against them

Not to mention up to 16,000 dead and 24,000 injured or missing Russian servicemen

If the Ukrainians can regroup and be rearmed and trained by the West I'd put money on them retaking the Crimea and Donbas

They've kicked Putin's cowardly arse
