Running without knackering your knees/back

Does anyone have any experience of running, as a person with knee/back problems? Do you have any tips on how to do this safely, or conversely do you have tales of woe to put me off the idea?

I would like to diversify from my current regime of just swimming and stretching/yoga, but I have previously been advised that running might be too much impact and I'd rather not give myself an injury.

Ta all.

I don’t have either problem but unless you’ve been advised by a medical professional to avoid running then start off at a slow/steady pace on soft surfaces and see how you get on?

Use yoga and/or Pilates as warm ups.

Get yer trainers and gait checked by someone at at independent running shop.

I find anything over 10k I have to wear knee braces or else I get aches around my knee caps which gradually get worse up yo a point where I just have to stop.

I will normally do 10+ miles most Sundays but last weekend I was out early, couldn't find my knee supports and didn't want to wake the missus up.

Stupidly went out anyway and had to stop after 12km. Annoying thing is that I was fine next day!!
