The way they've been doing it is to divide the entrants into groups of 6 by expected finish time & starting each group 5 minutes apart to minimise overtaking, fastest groups first so a smallish race of say 250 people will be broken down into 42 micro-races. They could probably get the start groups down to about 2 minutes apart for shorter stuff like 5K.

I'd actually welcome that at the best of times. Would be like being 'promoted' or 'relegated' each time you moved group!

It works quite well. Particularly if someone from the group in front has overestimated their form a bit &/or you've underestimated yours & there are long straight stretches. At Dalton Park I started seeing glimpses of the last of the group in front of me about 1.5 miles in & it gave me a hare to catch. I ended up catching her with about a mile to go & finished 3.5 mins ahead of my official 10K pb even though my pb was set on a flatter all road course.

First 'run' (if you can call it that) for a couple months today. Just jogging for 30 seconds and then walking for 30 seconds around my usual 5km route. Few twinges from the ankle but it felt stronger... Worse case if I'm stuck like this for good I can do the same thing for a marathon and finish it in 5 hours which I'd be happy with.

I did a track session tonight, it’s going to be a painful day tomorrow!

Signed up for wooler trail half a fortnight ago to give me some focus and back into a routine.

Getting the love of running again, feeling fitter and looking forward to my next run - until today when I took a tumble and after 4hrs in A and E get told I have a fractured foot.

Just typical isn't it.

Was hitting 5 k comfortably was slowly taking it up to 10 k now my back troubles are back, been bed bound for 5 days and back in a dark place I’m desperate to get out of. Backs been in spasm since Saturday morning can’t even walk to the kettle, hopefully the back specialist has a solution at my review in October at the fracture clinic. Absolutely devastated was starting to really love running as it was the only time my back didn’t hurt. People worse off than me I suppose. Keep at it people, yous can all smash it.

Trying to get back into it but it’s bloody hard once you’ve let it slip for so long.
I've been out for 5k runs on Wednesday and Thursday. Only just managing to get under 30 mins. It feels like I've never ran before.

Hope you get your back issue sorted mate.

Thanks bud, it’s a lot better today, they’ve given me some new anti inflammatory tablets today too so hopefully that helps. Probably stick to walking till after I’ve seen my surgeon.
