Run flat tyres

I've had a new 3 series for a month now and love it.....the fact that they are run flats means nowt to me other than the fact I don't have a spare in the boot.

First 3 series I've owned so suppose I have nothing to compare it to but is an infinitely better drive than my the x type I had previous or the mrs' rav4. My old man got a new Volvo XC60 yesterday and have had a blast of that, and that doesn't come close to the BMW.....although appreciate it's a different type of car.

The winter might change my opinion like.....

That boot compartment (where your spare would have been) is the ideal size for a slab of 12 cans of lager

I had a 5-series E34 for many years and it had an early version of run-flat technology tyres which meant that the car had unusual metric sized rims & only these special tyres fitted them. Only 5-series made during a fairly short period were ever fitted with these things at that size before they were ditched as a bad idea, leaving owners like me up the creek. It got to the stage where only Dunlop ever made these things, and even then they only ever made them in batches - which made them stupidly expensive even if you could get them when you needed. Eventually I gave in and did what everyone did - bought a set of second-hand standard wheels so that I could use ordinary tyres at a fraction of the price.

I had two punctures when running the run-flats. Both on back wheels while cruising on the motorway. The car remained so stable that I had no way of knowing I had a flat until I started to smell the burinig rubber - by which time the tyre was totally fkn destroyed in any case!
