Run flat tyres

what are the risks of a blowout really on a modern well maintained car..I have been driving for 24 years and never had one

on a modern sports tyre you have rei-inforced sidewalls these days which stop bulges and blisters even if you give a them a good hard knock

I am thinking about a 3 series and was worried the run flats may be part of the warranty, ie you had to keep running them...but if they are not then as soon as they wear they would be changed...been running conti sport 3's on the current car and like them a lot, would be an easy choice to make

I imagine running /40 profile tyres on an 18" wheel as a run flat would be akin to spinal re-adjustment

have a look on some of the beemer forums lots of discussions on this as may / may not effect the suspension setup as runflats are heavier etc

also insurance would need informing as its not original spec

got a space saver tyre in there at the mo, so no different, also carry one of them tyre repair inflater/foam thingy's also.

not a particularly fast driver myself, but prever to be able to handle the car better rather than have piece of mind of non puncture tbh!

Those space saver jobs are ludicrous. Drove for a day on one and the car would threaten to spin if I attempted a bend at anything faster than about 15mph. I would feel safer driving with a flat tyre.

errrmmmm! obviously they are there to get you to the next garage, not to f***ing drive normally on ya plank!
