Pay for the insurance on them and when the tread is wearing 'accidentally' go over a nail........new tyre gratis.
You can get the BMW recommended tyres for about £130 each.
The handling feels a little different with run flats but you get used to it after a few days.
eh?
ive run a 3 series for 2.5 years never had a puncture?
i get continental premium contact ssr 205/55/r16/v tyres for mine £74 quid each on camskill
one thiing i was told if you get a puncture you can 'run flat' for 50 miles only, any more the tyre will degrade and could collapse, so if if goes you have to change it asap. i have a spare in the garage all the time
Just what i read on one of them BMW blog site's,also says you can go 150 miles at 50mph once the warning light comes on.

Ditch the runflats straight away. The amount of hassle you'll get from trying to get anyone to repair a puncture is ridiculous. The problem is they have a steel wired and thick rubber side wall which keeps they tyre rigid when its flat. After 50 miles this starts to warp and collapse which is why they won't repair punctures so you'll be looking at a new tyre everytime you have a puncture. If you can find someone who'll do it no receipt no questions asked then fair enough.
On a different note they'll ruin the ride from being too firm and are prone to understeer in the wet.
edit - camskill is a great site. Got my winter tyres from there for £75 a corner and didn't get stuck once all winter.

runflats arent repairable once they have ridden on the hard side walls they are degraded
anyone who repairs them no questions asked is a cowboy & quite possibly a criminal
For competent drivers they're not a problem......and speaking as someone who had a tyre explode on them while doing 70mph down the M6 with a 3 month old baby in the back, I think they should be compulsory.

That depens whether the tyre has deflated. If its a nail stuck in and the tyre has retained pressure its theoretically repairable.
Fair enough. But by design they are rock hard and will understeer in the wet and compromise handling. They also weigh several kg more than normal tyres so if you have a performance car you will suffer from the issue of pre-sprung weight also effecting handling. But if you had a performance car chances are you wouldn't have a 3 month old baby in the back.
I have them on my 3 series ci (225/45/r17's) and don't like them one bit, once the tread is down a bit more, they will be coming off, would rather have decent handling than the current feel of them. bought the car with them already on but much prefer normal tyres.
