Don’t think I’ve ever felt uncomfortable in any pub in Sunderland. Was worse in the late eighties for trouble anyway, especially with the north/south divide that went on for a few years...

In the 70s n 80s every council estate had a group of lads who grew up together and would end up drinking down town together and often fightin the other groups , just seemed to be the way it was back then

The best pub that I visited in Sunderland was the tap and spile in Hendon c. 1993.

I went with a group of students who were acting up a bit, but I got talking to some locals and they were fine.

I think that someone was shot in there not long afterwards?

There was about 5 of them put the lad in a coma, he was still in a coma 20 years later but I don’t know if he’s still alive. Anyone over the age of 40 from Seaham knows what happened in the aftermath but it’s not for public reading.
