It's not Speakman's job to dictate tactics though - is it?
I think it kind of is to a degree - a director of football ultimately picks the playing philosophy and then picks a head coach who can implement it.

It’s done that way to ensure you can move through head coaches and still have continuity.

So while each head coach has their own nuances, the footballing philosophy comes from the DoF

Gave up in November pal. I’ve been watching us 36 years, I know what the crack is, as @Bristol City says this time last season I said we’d be challenging for promotion to the premier league, we finished 5th and didn’t do too shabby in the play offs, I know my onions.
What’s actually gone wrong with you lot this season?

You looked very solid last year getting 5th but this year you look toothless. It’s very strange on the outsider view.

Rotherham have had their manager in place far longer than Sunderland have their managers in place before they are removed.
Rotherham are a yo-yo club, but may have benefited from being in The Championship - player wise and financially.
Tbf we spent a decade in the premier league and a year in the championship and it hasn’t benefited us

The board (literally) said: oh, we didn't get any decent offers for our players, because they weren't attractive to other clubs, due to Ismaël's hoofball.

So, they appointed a more technical head coach, and our form fell off a cliff.

So they sacked a head coach after finishing 5th? Bit harsh.

I keep saying it but 6 foot plus and lean is the modern footballer.

Why we keep on acquiring 5 foot 10 and below footballers completely baffles me.

Its another failure in our recruitment this season.

...and what they've achieved had to have been possible here. For starters their defence. Hence its probably fair to say managers have been the problem cos they aren't throwing the cash around either.
They reek of champions at any level.

Our owners are footballer farmers, basically live stock farmers with footballers, last summer we was left with a field full of aging stock, because we’d reared them into stock that our customers weren’t interested in, so we’ve adopted a different approach to rearing them this season, to try increasing their value when we take them to market this summer. Unfortunately the head farmers entrusted in overseeing the development of our stock haven’t been up to standard.

Yes it is, every head coach Speakman appoints will have his “philosophy”, he has spoke in the past saying how the whole club will have the same way of playing, the head coach is the most replaceable part of it. It sounds good in theory however we won’t be getting promoted trying to play out from the back in this division anytime soon.

Everything that has been said about Alex Neil from fans of his previous clubs say he is a coach who plays attacking football, high pressing, crosses into the box type of coach, the exact philosophy that Speakman keeps talking about. It’s probably why Keane didn’t end up here, he wouldn’t entertain that style of football IMO.

Rotherham just organised, physical and stick to their simple game plan.
Good lad is Michael Smith and know he is Mag.
Definitely have a side built to get out of the league, Sheffield Wednesday could count themselves a tad unlucky but Rotherham are solid at the back.

So you are saying we are smaller, weaker, slower, less physical, cravener and definitely unsuited to get out of this league compared to Rotherham.

Probably and probably a better result for us than Wednesday getting anything out of it though.
This is what we have come to: looking to Rotherham to keep our playoff hopes on our own hands. 😢

Why has this formula been so inadequate in the Championship?
Because we’re not playing against, shite like Wensdeh, Donny, and Pompey. Every week, this league is very poor as highlighted by the likes of Rotherham Hull and ourselves every other year, if you can come down with an organised game plan and a strategy you’re too good for the clubs that are rotting away down here.

Aye,...Its a means to an end....
Same down here, couldn't cut it today, but relying on other teams to get a result off the teams around us.
Pointless holding on to past glory and thinking a team deserve owt better because of the name, or the support, or the history...Means Jack mate
We are down here because we deserve to be and harping on of Kerr Porterfield, Hirst and Waddle adds up to a bucketful of smoke

That "gameplan" won't last forever mate
TBH honest, the Prem is where its at, and none of us are getting there anytime soon are we?
..Playing you in league 1 is much the same as playing you in the Championship, a game going nowhere...
Takes about 10 games to get as p*ssed off in the Championship as you are down here....Its a stepping stone to f.ookin' nowhere if you keep spinnin' round and putting your foot on the one behind you

The teams that struggle down here, are the teams that have been taking the piss out of financial fair play up there.
The ones with their houses in order tend to fair a lot better.
