Ross Stewart

Staggering what his agent has done here, he could have accepted extra money but inserted a clause saying any bid over £xmillion pounds and he can go and talk to them, but he has just went for the hard game and really fucked it up
To be fair, he took a gamble on Stewart staying for or at least not getting a serious injury, banging in 25-30 goals and you’re looking at a value or £25m and earning capability of >40k pw (here or elsewhere).

Tbf, it’s his agent that will be doing the negotiating. The reality is, he was pushing for a wage that we simply wouldn’t pay but he knew he could get elsewhere.

Steward has now been paid significantly under market value for a year and could quite possibly be looking at another year of it.

If the lad has another injury ruined season then he will struggle to find a club willing to offer the £15-20k a week (for 2-3 years) which we did - even on a free transfer
Good summary of the situation. He has been terribly advised tbh. It would be interesting to know what sort of bids we have received for him over the past 12 months.

Allegedly the agent is the main sticking point in all this. He will quite probably see it as his own personal big pay day too and that’s the farcical thing about most agents-half of them couldn’t kick a football in anger and just see their clients as personal cash cows.

Many players and managers now no longer use ‘agents’ and just use a competent lawyer who charges a set fee for services rendered. It’s not unfair to say many (not all) agents are leeches whose personal self interest far outweighs that of their client.

The biggest thing in all this is the question “Will he return as fit as he was prior to these two very serious injuries?”. That will determine the worth of any contract SAFC or any other club may offer him.

He’s going to miss the start of the season and some have suggested it could even be October by the time he’s fit enough to play first team football as there’s no way he can be rushed back-he’ll be wrapped in cotton wool initially.

A proven central striker who can start against Ipswich is an absolute must. We just cannot afford a repeat of last season where we often played with no recognised forward or relied on an unproven youngster who generally wasn’t good enough in the role he had to play.

It’s two years since we paid money for a forward. This needs to change imminently.
Great post 👍

Your posts prior to your £15 million post. I think he has taken you seriously whereas you were obviously talking tongue in cheek about Stewart's current value.
Well some people are a bit slow on here you know.
Plus I do have a few absolute clowns on ignore.

Whatever happens, I hope the lad gets paid. It seldom occurs where a footballer so far outgrows his earnings for such a length of time.

No

I’m going on what I observed, I don’t think there was a more complete striker in the championship last season
Ah well ok you need to trust your observations then.
I dont watch other teams strikers unless they are playing against us so can't form an opinion from my observations.

He could have been sat there earning a lot more if he had signed. Dangerous game Stewart and the agent played and it’s back firing on them. If we sort the striker situation out properly he could face a situation where he’s not even first choice CF if one of the new lads hit the ground running. Doesn’t help us getting a decent fee mind but I think it’s at the point where whatever fee we get will be minimal if any.

I am totally perplexed by your last line, we have literally just signed a striker for 7 figures. how did you miss that?
