Ross Stewart

Awful long ball team with 2 average strikers. On paper it looks a half decent fit. However, they're coming straight back down and Stewart isn't really a target man.

I'm sure his agent would be keen to get the cash on offer albeit they'd probably put in a relegation clause.

I would imagine Stewart would be very unimpressed from a football point of view. Nothing club in a tiny ground.

He’d get more money and a season in the premier league. The alternative is less money and a season in the championship. Can see the younger players preferring our set up and style of football but he’s nearly 27, so perhaps wants to try and fast track his way into a mid table premier league side for the prime of his career.

If he proves his fitness and starts scoring again he'll be offered a decent deal here with a chance of promotion. I think we have a fair chance of passing Luton next season. They barely have anything like a premier league player in their squad and they are rightly heavy favourites to get relegated. If they make mid-table good luck but I seriously can't see it.

Frankly this is starting to piss me off

People talk about players showing no loyalty- think they need to get with the programme… if LND had picked up a career threatening injury would the club be showing any loyalty to him?

There is an argument that part of the reason the club has hesitated to just make him an offer he cannot refuse is precisely because of the risk of poor progress in rehab or a recurrence of the injury

But frankly he is an outstanding player when fit who there is little doubt could perform if we got promoted. Therefore if we have ambition we should be aiming to convince LND that this season we will be serious about promotion and can match any wages he is offered elsewhere- albeit with a release clause if we don’t go up this coming season or the one after.

I’m not saying throw money around like confetti - we’ve done that in the past with third rate strikers. But LND, when fit, is a much better striker than we could afford if forced to replace him before the season starts so let’s show some ambition and sort his contract out

Sick of this dragging on now. Needs sorting this summer either

Think its clear he isnt signing a new deal so if not get a deal done and get on with bringing a replacement in

I agree. I mean he will step stone from Luton to another side if he does well enough or stick around there on more pay if it turns out he’s not good enough or a crock. I don’t have Luton down for mid-table either but you never know.

Not sure what our plan is for playing this out and if waiting for his return to fitness is part of it.

I agree to a point.

I think there is room for compromise. Stewart needs to sign an extension with a decent pay rise and get fit. if a decent offer comes in we wouldn’t stand in his way if it sets him up for life. It protects the club and player.

The lad is in no man’s land at the minute and I would be sacking may agent off if I was him.

Appreciate money talks but if his options are Stoke or Luton he should stick with us.

Plucked Stewart from relative obscurity and gave him a platform to perform. And tbf he has done very well. He then has a serious injury and the club still back him and show faith by offering a new contract even though there a no guarantees he will be anywhere near the same player.

Not going to lie its starting to piss me off that the same loyalty shown to him by the club doesnt seem to be being reciprocated.

This is total and Utter nonsense likr

He’s paid peanuts, he’s on virtually the same wage he was when he was signed from ross county in the third division

He’s 26 going on 27 and earned virtually no money from football.

Loyalty? How’s he been disloyal. Good example of how sensitive football fans are

It's not easy for either party. We need to find a compromise.

If Stewart goes to Luton he gets a signing on fee and a big wage increase.

If he signs here he'd probably get smaller of both.

Worse case he could bomb in a poor Luton side, end up back in the Championship on reduced money. He may do well and they stay up or go down, the money will keep coming in.

He could score 20+ goals for us and we get promoted. He could score 20+ and not get promoted but earn a good move. He could struggle with his injuries again.

If it was me I would offer him as much as we could and the offer of a large bonus and a large rise if we go up.

There is absolutely no point in entertaining daft bids of less than £10M. It will cost us over a £100M if we miss out on promotion due to a lack of goals.

Good move for him, big money, near London, chance to prove himself in the premier
15 mill will do like.
Will it be?

Exactly, people getting pissed off as though it impacts their life man  People always bang on about loyalty but on the next thread it'll be "they're shit get rid".

Haha aye spot on

Where is the “loyalty” shown to players they want to get rid of. Only works one way with football fans.

It’s mental man.
I get the PL attraction but Luton...

I know what you mean. Say he scores 13-15 goals though, he’s then gonna get another move. As I said he’s getting on and he needs to start earning some money fast, he’s a very short career

If we are miles away on agreeing a contract then sell him IF we get a good offer.

He wants more money and has a figure in mind clearly and we don't want to pay that figure. That's life.

I don’t want him to go but I’m sure we’ll move on and be fine without him.

Luton is a shocking move for him in footballing terms but if he wants a bit coin then crack on if we can’t/won’t match it.

I genuinely think they will get relegated with below 15 points. Would be a terrible move for him in my opinion.

Yeah but what has he been offered? If its 15k a week then that is not peanuts. Might not be what he wants but it's a reasonable offer and he's then choosing to stay on peanuts.

What is he being paid? And how much was he on when we signed him?
Anything else you want to have a wild guess about?
