Ross Stewart

I thought the club pulled the contract off the table when Ross got injured?

I also thought that once Ross proves his fitness, the new contract will be offered?

He was probably being advised to hold out on our offer and see what happens. Then the second injury came which rocks things a bit. Now he’s stuck here and both sides look to be “holding out” but also injured so it’s harder to generate interest.

I suspect he’ll leave on a free next summer
I disagree, he will go this ,last day of the transfer window is my guess. While disappointed in him not signing this contract I full support Speakman for holding off improving his contract further until he has proved full fitness. We've been bitten too many times in the past to put all of our chips on one player.

A year ago LND was my favorite sunderland player. I think we have moved on - still be happy if he stayed and signed - as a team we are clearly less dependent than we were

How exactly have we moved on? Have people lost the plot on here?

We've just spent half a season without a centre forward. Although we tried to adapt and done bloody well we struggled massively at times with simple aspects the likes of Gelhardt didn't and couldn't bring to us.

Further to that the main player who was digging us out, more often than not, with moments of brilliance has gone back to his parent club.

People are in for some stark realisation come the start of the season if they think we've moved on from the like of Ross Stewart who when fit was as good as anyone in the Championship last season.

It’s a rejection reaction I think. “We don’t need him” etc through the tears.

Mind you I do think it’s publicly the only thing at the club that’s an issue at the minute.

It’s got to be Ross turning down our offers and that’s not good for the other players or the fans.

With speakman coming out and underlining that we are not a selling club and referencing stewerts contract directly... those to things together could me that were aren't that far apart on a deal.

Stewert has pretty much let it be known that he wants to stay...

Stoke might be owned by the Coates family but are a bit of a basketcase

Sebastian?

There is no guarantee we will start as we finished last season. Playing with no CF and literally walking the ball in the net or scoring Worldys into the top corner. We need our CF fit and ready to take bread n butter chances.

QuAtez family surely? :D

Has that been confirmed he won't be fit
No, not at all.

Speakman said he wouldn't be fit for early pre-season (it starts tomorrow) but maybe fit the middle to the back end of pre-season.

He then went on to say there was a doubt he'd be ready to start the season.

IMO that means he'll be training alone until they decide he's fit enough to join in with the team in full training. It's still 7 weeks until the start of the season. If he's training fully in say 4 weeks time he would have a chance on being on the bench for the first game as he'd probably have played some minutes in a friendly or 2.

What are your thoughts on his future Keith? Will he leave this Summer?

Given the prognosis on his recovery you would have to say it looks highly unlikely. He's a massive asset for us, worth at least as much as Clarke. Burnley have had a supposed £10M bid for Clarke turned down.

It's very unlikely anyone is going to bid that sort of money for someone still coming back from a long term injury.

The only way I could see him being sold is if he gets back training a little earlier. Plays in the last pre-season game for around an hour and then we decide he can start against Ipswich.

Then he would need to hit the ground running and score about 5 goals in August. Then and only then maybe someone from the premier league would maybe take a punt on a £10M plus last minute bid.

However, we still aren't under any obligation to sell him. It's all very well saying get the cash when it's there but if costs us promotion it's over a £100M down the drain.
