Ross Stewart

I've said it before & I'll say it again.

From the clubs point of view their employee is injured & not contributing.

Why would they give him a 3 year contract on 20k per week or whatever?

What if he's a crock now?

Maybe it's a mutual thing.

He comes back, gets fit, scores goals then the contract follows??
I totally agree, However its far to sensible for many on here...

From the players point of view its a straight choice. he is at an age where he has got to look after himself and his family. nobody will sign him til he proves his fitness so when and if he does, we need to offer him the going rate to keep the lad. not rocket science tbf

We really blew a massive chance of getting back into the Premier League. I hope that we are going to spend big.
We're you used to sitting in the corner at school facing the wall with a large D on your hat, because you don't really seemed to have learnt anything over the last 18 months. The club is fighting tooth and nail to reposition itself financially after the disasters of the previous decade and I'm afraid spending big is not on the agenda in the terms I suspect you are thinking of. We will have 1 of the largest wage bills in our league in an attempt to keep our talent at the club and throwing large transfer fees around won't happen as it isn't affordable or sustainable without Premier league money. When we eventually return to the PL our outlook will change but not significantly overnight as it will be a slow burn approach with limited financial risk so the club continues it's "build it strong from the bottom upwards" policy. Hopefully everyone of your ilk will calm down once we have sorted the striker situation out.

Its looked obvious for a while he wasn’t going to commit. If so get the best deal we can quickly and move on

Possibly one of the only moves that makes sense.

Stoke, you’d get the wages, but I’ve got little confidence they’ll be getting promoted anytime soon.

Us, he’ll not get the wages he desires, but footballing wise we’d like to think we’re heading in the right direction on the pitch & at least have a chance of getting promoted.

Premier League, it’s not happening this window, id have my doubts the January window too, due to injuries & short contract.

Southampton? Probably bigger wages & a better chance of getting promoted. Obviously it can all go wrong for them, as it has West Brom & Norwich, but right here & now, it makes sense.

I'm not convinced about Southampton. They still don't know what squad they're going to end up with yet and their manager has absolutely no promotion credentials. In four seasons he's only finished top half once. In terms of likelihood of promotion you've got to back yourselves over the other two? You have a more settled squad, yes Diallo will be a huge miss if you can't get him back, but you'd go with a settled squad and manager over an unknown every day. As we both know, getting relegated isn't the boon many say it is in terms of getting straight back.

If I was his agent I'd be advising him to stay, sit out his contract and go hell for leather. Best case scenario is promotion with Sunderland, worst case is a free agent with the likes of Southampton and Stoke chasing him where as a Bosman he'd get more wages than this summer anyway.

Or he stays, plays a couple of games for us, gets injured again and then no one touches him next summer and makes buttons.

He’ll probably be offered 30,000 + with their parachute payments and likely sales of JWP, Salisu etc which will strengthen their coffers.

Probably play second fiddle to Che Adams and alongside Adam Armstrong from time to time. If he wants away and we aren’t willing to budge for whatever reason, it’s a good move for him.

So the lad scores the goals to get us promoted and then has the best goals per games ratio in the championship and as a thank you as soon as he gets injured we tell him he can get fucked? I remember niall quinn picking up a career threatening injury when he played with us do you think peter reid would have just refused him a new contract?

The top and bottom is the club aren’t interested in paying decent money for managers or established players. All they want to do is buy and sell young players that they hope they can sell for profit.

If we can’t get promoted with Amad and Ross Stewart we certainly won’t get promoted without them. I understand the clubs transfer policy but we need to at least replace them two with proven players.

Personally I find it embarrassing and unambitious that it seems we won’t compete salary wise with the likes of stoke and Southampton. People will say trust the club blah blah but if we start bad people will soon change their minds.

Great move for the lad if he is to be fair, they'll be straight back up
I can’t see that mind, might be wrong mind. Leicester I think are shoe ins, leeds and Southampton I don’t think they’re any guarantees, depends how their higher paid lads adapt to slightly more kicking and slightly worse referees imho.

So we should pay an injured player, with no guarantee of when he comes back, or whether the injury has effected his game, whatever he demands?
