Ross Stewart

Risky, if he does that, comes back, and then picks up another injury, he would have few options and no big pay deal.
Just got a feeling we’ll be coming out every now and then saying how vital he is, without offering anywhere near what he’s asking for.

It’ll be his agent prolonging this contract saga, trying to wangle the best deal just like Maja’s agent did. Good strikers are like gold dust in this league and we all know Ross Stewart is one of the best in this division and so will Rosco and his agent so they know that there is no rush either. With this injury it’s made it so that clubs would rather not shell out for a player who may not be fit till at least October. I’d love us to give him a deal which makes him stay and enjoy the journey with us but what will be will be.

What’s to say he’ll come back the same player it’s a gamble for everyone. We shouldn’t be going into the last year of a deal though. We’ve got to stick to our guns if he doesn’t want what we are offering then he doesn’t want to.

Sign or we’ll start listening to offers.

All these young lads coming in full of optimism keen and hungry and this lingering on nahhhhh had enough of it now.

Everyone is blaming his agent or RS.

What if it's the club or a mutual agreement?

Think about it from the club's point. There employee is not able to work so giving him a new contract or pay rise isn't sensible at present.

When he is fit & scoring goals again then contract is signed. They could maybe backdate payments or bonuses? 🤔

Why do so many posters think a player is the club’s personal property or even the fans’ personal property to be sold at will?
The transfer of a player is not like selling a second hand car.

The club have the contractual right to keep Stewart for another season. They are not obliged to offer him another contract beyond that. Of course they will because they want him to stay. However, there are other players that will be discarded at the end of their contracts without any further liability to the club. Winchester is an example of such a player.

If Ross wants to see his contract out then leave that is his prerogative. He is not duty bound to make millions for the club owners.

The transfer price of a player should be no more than what a club is bound to pay him.

Everyone’s saying they’re not arsed anymore but I can guarantee once he’s fit and scores a couple it’ll become imperative again. Need it sorting before the season starts.

Meh. It’s been that long since I’ve seen the bugger play and he played no part at all in one of the most enjoyable seasons I’ve had in a long time. He can sign or not..I’m not at all arsed frankly
Agree with that. We played some brilliant football without Stewart and I think we can again. Still gonna pick Clarke as gonna be the divisions top player this season. Reckon he's fired up.

The transfer price should be what a club is willing to pay. Breach of contract by a club can cost the club millions. Blatant breaches of contract by players usually end up earning the player more money.

It would take a lot of pressure off to sign a striker or 2. If we brought in the Croatian striker and Cannon he might not get in the first team.
But that's part of the problem.

Do we buy one striker to compete with RS and bring Hemir through as he's still basically a kid and one for the future?

Or do we bring in two strikers if RS has his mind set on leaving?

Only RS and his leech, sorry agent, know what his intentions are. Personally, I think he'll run his contract down and leave for free and the proverbial ' pay day '. He's fully entitled to of course, but the less he and his agent say ( nowt, currently! ) the more I believe he'll be off for more money.

I just hope we have replacements in the pipeline to keep our momentum going.

As a free agent next summer he might command an extra 20-30k a week from a club with deeper pockets than us. That would probably leave him better off than a short-term bump here.
Someone that actually sees what this is. 👍
Or, he eventually gets fit & doesn’t make a real impression this season. Then you’re left with a player who’s had a purple patch for 13 matches & never played at a higher level than the Championship. Commanding £20k-£30k would be extremely difficult for a 28 year old with little potential resale value.

Obviously he could come back & be mint. I think we’re also remembering the play off victory with fondness too. Great season on paper, we were lucky he stayed fit & ran him into the ground, but there were two very specific periods, before Christmas & April time where he was flat. Luckily for us, Cambridge when he got a penalty & another goal seemed to lift him for the play offs. But he wasn’t on top form for 46 matches.

What we’ve all got fresh in our minds was that he was excellent for 13 matches last season.

Basically this injury has fucked him. The fact he’s not going to be ready for the start of the season means it’s unlikely someone will offer decent money we’d accept as a transfer fee. So it’s going on whether he comes back & plays well, or even appears physically fit.

Progression wise, right now, he’s not going to get a Premier League opportunity, so it comes to hoping he gets a big contract from another Championship club & hoping they’re in a better position than us in the next year or two. Imagine not committing, sitting in the Championship whilst your old club go up & are paying Premier League wages? Could happen.

Happened to Wyke.
