Ross Stewart - unlucky? Or a bullet dodged?

The irony will be if we went up this year, he would probably be more on more money next season with us in the Prem as opposed to plying his trade for a manager who didnt sign him on less money
Or due to injuries we may have had to let him go on a free.

If I were Stewart I would have signed for another year, on what the club were offering, got a Championship season under his belt, scored goals and got a better move than Southampton which on a football level is a backward move. If we got up he would get the money he wanted here anyway

Thats a huge crystal ball you got there….

I'm not sure now that he is fit enough. May have agreed with you 2 months ago. He got the life changing contract he wanted and fair play to him. Must be honest I wanted him gone at the end.

Both. We learned to play without him (or a striker for that matter). He did us a job, and if he had have stayed he still would have, but will always be made of balsa wood, so whoever has him will never see the best of him.

Ditto. His ceiling IMO was only ever bottom half Prem level, too slow for a top 10 side

He was becoming a distraction and also sends a strong message that no player is bigger than the club

Excellent deal for the club and the player, but a huge risk for Southampton. Might come good again, might not, and to be fair, I think we have a much more balanced side now. I was more concerned when the rumours of the deal falling through were floating around on deadline day. For any club without parachute payments, £10m is far too much to gamble with on a player coming back from 2 serious injuries, let alone a one running down his contract.

I think we may have seen the best of Stewart

He had a pretty sketchy record on injuries and that season in league one was an outlier in his career

as he is now a player at an opposition team , I hope he fails and safc finish above Southampton

We'd have been mad not to take the offer for a striker who's barely played at this level, been our injured for the best part of a year and in the last year of his contract.
This. He’s played less than a quarter of a season at this level yet apparently is the best striker in the Championship! We did the right thing selling after this length of time injured and for the money offered. Southampton more money than sense it would appear,

I'm sure most fans were disappointed we lost him, but wish him well. I do. But it now seems his "return by the end of September" ETA was wide of the mark...this report puts his return back until the third week of October.
We aren't missing his goals at present and maybe the deal for good money suits us more than them...or indeed Ross himself.

Think we got a good money for him given his injury and the contract saga. IF he does make a full recovery from it we all know the damage he can do.
Wouldn't say that we have missed his goals to be honest but he is a very intelligent forward who takes defenders and midfielders out of the game.

When will he be fit? When will he be able to play 90 mins? Will he be the same? Will he then stay fit? - someone else's questions now.

He was excellent for us and I would have loved him to sign a new deal. But with the contract talks dragging on, seeing how good still we were without him last season and the money that was offered, I think it's a very wise deal for us.

I really doubt they would have signed him if they knew at the time he wouldn’t be fit until the end of October. He won’t be be fully fit and up to speed until the jan window.

Wish him no ill will (unlike some of the mercenaries who we’ve had, who’ve left), I think it was the right decision for club and player to let him go.

It was a big fee for a player who was injured and who nobody has any idea if his recovery will see him back to his best.

Not sure what I’d think if we’d paid £9million for a player in the same situation.

I was disappointed with the way Stewart exited, for me it had been apparent for months that he wasn’t going to sign a new contract ( for whatever reason) I wouldn’t wish harm on anyone but I certainly won’t be wishing him well either (why would you 🤷‍♂️)

Win-win for all parties. It's working out well so far, with RS in the team we were a bit predictable but now we're almost impossible to defend against with 2 No10's.
