Ross Stewart - unlucky? Or a bullet dodged?

Great money for our club, big risk for Southampton.

Great player at Div3 level when fit was showing he could do it at this level too. However can he be the same player after two serious injuries in two years?

We saw some good performances from him but not enough times due to his injuries.

All the risk has been taken by Southampton who will hope he gets back to full fitness (including playing full 90min games) before Christmas, because imho I just can't see him hitting the levels expected straight away after so long out.

Got no problem with the deal as the money seems to have been invested in improving our team with a number of decent looking signings.

As achilles injuries go, his was supposed to be not too bad (relatively speaking).

Now it’s looking like the best part of a year out. He’ll have played 13 games in 18 months.

Cheers for the money Saints, funded our whole transfer spending this summer.

Dodged a bullet

I hope his career does not fall off a cliff due to his injury, a side that wont play around him like we did and likely end up at a club where the manager did not actually sign you (Martin will be sacked by the time he gets back fit) so gets limited game time and probably farmed out on loan

Keeping him was a roll of the dice, taking the money gives us other options.

That said, I'd have been happy if he had signed but the wages are better elsewhere

An extremely long way to go & he’s nowhere near ready to kick a ball for them yet, but…. Is Ross Stewart going to be another tool Speakman & team will use to persuade players to come or stop.

Aye, he’s on a better wage, blah, blah, blah, but football career wises, so many people are having the best time of their lives here. As Alex Neil will testify, it’s a risk to leave, even if you get paid a few quid more.

That few quid more might mean you’re out of pocket if/when we get promoted

SAFC 5-0 Saints
Saints 1-4 Leicester
Boro 2-1 Saints

Nice choice Ross. Appreciate what you did for us but we did well for you too, taking you from low level Scottish football to Wembley and the adoration of one of the best fan bases in world football. As soon as you and your agent saw ££££££ SAFC were secondary in your thoughts.

Enjoy the far smaller club, hope the money makes up for it.

& ultimately if we progress they can earn good money at SAFC too.

No...First estimates were pre-season; then revised till late September. Now its third week of October.
Speakman said at the fixtures breakfast he’d miss “most” of pre-season. Might be my memory playing tricks on me, but I think we encircled him to be have been on the bench at least for a few weeks by now.

The irony will be if we went up this year, he would probably be more on more money next season with us in the Prem as opposed to plying his trade for a manager who didnt sign him on less money

Honestly think he’s just one of those good fit at a club like type players

Will do nowt else where
We'd have been mad not to take the offer for a striker who's barely played at this level, been our injured for the best part of a year and in the last year of his contract.
