If Sunderland go up then it’s debatable whether Norwich are a better proposition, I don’t think he’d leave for any team in the same division tbh.

Can actually see Sunderland being mid-table next season if they go up, a lot of the current squad will be better suited to the higher level, where it’s less physical and more about quality. The one thing a lot of them have struggled with this season is the physicality.

Bollocks. Toney went for that and he's only a year or two younger.
he wen t for £5m and was 24...stewart will be 26 at the start of next season..toney had done more in the game as well...
Could we afford championship wages for him, they'll all want a pay rise if we went up.
we get £5.4m extra revenue and stewart will be on peabuts now given he is still i guess ? on the contract he sigend when coming as a n unknown froms cotland

That would be very interesting, actually, just what do the owners do in the championship, all of them will want a pay rise that are still here at the end of the season, and of course, for the first time in 5 years we will need to spend serious money, very interesting indeed.

Good, if other teams in higher leagues want our players it's a good sign. It's up to us to be in the same league as Norwich next season. Then we'll have more chance of keeping him.

Unfortunately this and I happen to think he is the best player we have had for years. Shame but at least the clowns that run this circus will be happy
The other side though is that this could be a very good bit of business. Player plucked out of obscurity for £300k, hit the floor running and will generate at least a tenfold profit. Nice work.
Now, if they invest that in playing staff next season, whichever league we’re in then that’s going to be a healthy position.

Nobody knows where will we will end up for another five weeks, and there’s a load of if’s and but’s, however this is one very astute bit of business whichever way it goes.

I’m still in favour of the new regime in the main and hope that this is the beginning of a very professional model that we haven’t seen for a long, long time.

If Scotland get to the World Cup, he'll more likely stay imo.

The tournament's in November. Being 2nd or 3rd choice at a better club August-October would be a disaster for the lad.
what rather than play in the championship, if we don't get promoted 🤔if he can get in that Norwich side, because i assume smith will be wanting to go for the league next season,Stewart playing at that level, gives him a stronger case, end of the day it's up to him, his agent and what Sunderland are prepared to pay.

If we could get £4m or so I’d snap any clubs hand off if we are still in league 1. That sort of money would likely be more than the cumulative transfer fees spent by league 1 clubs in the summer, so if, and yet it’s a bit if I know, we both invested it and invested it well it could be significant.

Yes of course we need to go up, but actually going up after a better season and with a stronger squad depth has to be the way to go ideally. If we went up with what we have now, we’d be all over the place in the championship and a likely candidate to come straight back down.

Should have tied him to a new deal when things were going relatively well earlier in the season. Even if it had a big release clause in, it still gives you that protection. As it stands now we'll be trying to cash in on a player with only on e year left on his deal. We simply never learn.
I said similar in the autumn.... clearly in his first appearance v Accrington last season he had real potential clearly better than Wyke and yet LJ didn't really see this....hence the last 8 games where we messed up

We've already got the option to extend his contract for another year. It's in the story.

But unless you've got very strong guarantees of first team football, games are more important. It's an unusual circumstance, but will happen allover the football pyramid - people with a sniff of being involved in November will be more risk averse.

Though tbc: Scotland won't qualify, not a chance for me. If a Ukranian emotional tide doesn't overwhelm them, the Welsh will take care of business.
