The thing is though, 15 million is a lot of money. If we sold and reinvested would his sale be detrimental to the squad?

Unless you unearth another gem, strikers like Stewart that 'fit' our club are hard to come by.

He is the one player in the whole squad we need to keep.

The club are very aware of his value as a player and his worth as an asset.
When he signed they were smart enough to put in the option clause into the contract.
I’ve got a lot of faith in the current regime. Something that I haven’t been able to say for years.
You’d know all about a good deal wouldn’t you lad?

He probably does feel that way but how do you know the offer isn't there on the table but he doesn't want to commit for any longer or is hanging on for something better. None of us know the details but you can't have it both ways.

Doesn't take a genius to work out he's not going to be happy sitting on his current deal for 22 months. The longer his contract the better price we'll get when we sell him.

put yourself in Ross Stewart's shoes. would you sign a new deal?

i wouldn't. not unless we offered silly money. he knows we'll be forced to sell him come the summer and if his form continues he'll have a pick of clubs to choose from. or at least that's what his agent is probably telling him

with his international ambitions etc why would you stay here

i think the best we can hope for is he signs a new deal with a release clause. otherwise i just don't see him doing it or it would have happened already

Not sure what relevance an extra year has to negotiations that have been going on since spring tbh.

Surely we expect him to sign a new contract within 15 months of negotiations?

We bought him from ross county ffs he should show a little loyalty which i think he will i hope anyway class player.

Considering his low start and a late blooming career really, the lad needs to fill his bags with money imo.

Once they get to 27/28 mind, teams will be put off by a big price tag like. Especially for a forward who's never played about Championship level.

Boro paid 10M for a 27 year old jordan rhodes. Mags paid 10M for a 27 year old dwight gayle both from the championship

He's not a defender or a winger or a midfielder that can be replaced easily with minimum fuss. He's in the most vital position on the pitch. The one thing every club craves is a top striker banging them in and we have one. Stop f***ing around and give him what he wants to sign a 3 or 4 year contract before someone gets in his ear. I've no doubt we'd burn through millions trying to find a replacement that could give us the qualities Stewart does.

From Rosco's point of view the more he scores just now the bigger the wage he eventually asks, he'll try and hit a sweet spot before he goes dry or picks up a knock . Fair enough , we've got him till 2024 , longer hes scoring suits me.

If he's wanting the biggest wages possible, and is holding on for that, then leaving on a free is his best option.

On the flip-side there's no guarantee he'd hit the same heights with another club, it may just be that he's a good fit for our club and style of play he could leave and then fall out of favour with another club only to wish that he gave us time to grow and progress with us and find his true level.

Yeah but you can dry up or break your leg . Best to get the biggest rise that covers you with a release clause and lots of bonuses , goals , loyalties

That could happen tomorra though with no contract. Need to sign a new deal to get a release clause but broken legs aren't going to help the cause.
