Ross out KP in

I genuinely thought we could actually drop another division before the new owners and JR came in - like Pompey and Coventry did. Its funny how people forget the realities of where we were. There was nobody, simply nobody, who thought us relying on Maja would be good enough. Because he came in part way though the summer we missed out on a number of his targets such as Lyle Taylor and Mo Eisa.

I'm not saying he hasn't made mistakes but I don't buy the view that we should have walked the division. We have brought in 20 odd players in a relatively short time and that is just not a straightforward thing. I would certainly give Ross another year if we don't go up - football today totally lacks any patience but fortunately the new owners have a longer term plan. They said when they came in that they were planning for a couple of years in League One - that is not defeatist it is just good planning for the possibility that we may not walk the league.

A reasoned post and i take your point that we have brought in a lot of players in a short time and some margin for error should be allowed. However i would counter this with two points.

1) Luton brought in about as many as we did at the start of the season.
2) There doesnt seems to be a strategy with his signings. I.e signing a CM in Leadbitter was hardly a priority. Signing grigg, who has predominantly played as a sole striker in his career and not fitting him into a system. Chopping and changing the shape and personnel of the midfield. Signing mcgeouch with apparently no plan of how to utilise him properly. You just cannot see the basis of a style of play emerging and it all looks confused.

Ross was limited in what he could bring in to the club, mostly due to the astronomical wages we were still paying to players responsible for our back to back relegations.

Again i dont think luton are breaking the bank
And have players who are used to lower league football, and also have a base of players who were promoted last season. When you have their momentum, the football pretty much looks after itself. We have a squad split between Premiership and Championship misfits , young lads from the academy and a lot of free agents. Ross has done fantastically well to get us where we are.

It needs some abstract thinking but the manager is just one part of what makes a successful team. Replacing one is no magic bullet , as much as people believe it is. If it was, the constant turnover of managers the last few years would have seen us successful, but the opposite is true

Aye premiership quality and championship quality and he still cant get a tune out of them compared to a league 2 squad coming up and then being over hauled. I dont think any sensible person could argue that ross hasnt had the dream ticket as a league 1 manager.

Ive been accused on here as being negative. I can promise you i am not. Ive got no agenda against he bloke im just looking at the facts and comparing him to his peers. Hes coming up short.

Its frustrating because i can see him wasting a great opportunity. In the same way as i could see bruce wasting one. Hes the only other manager ive been really critical of. People are making excuses for ross because they want him to succeed but looking at things objectively i cant see any evidence that suggests he will. I dont know if people are confusing loyalty to the club with loyalty to its manager. Outside of Sunderland every man and his dog can see we should comfortably win the league but our small time mentality creeps in and you hear, "if not this year, give him at least next year". Incredible. We will never achieve owt with that mindset.

KP been on goals on Sunday talking how he’s ready to get into management.

Reports today claim WBA were after Alex Neil and if can’t get him they’ll go for Ross. Neill just signed new contract with Preston.

Would anyone object to this?
Your still clueless as ever.

Why would WBA want Ross? Seriously?

Because from the outside he'll be viewed as having done a good job here and enhanced his reputation. We evaluate everything and see the ins and outs so maybe don't appreciate the good as much and concentrate on the bad. Personally I think WBA would be making a massive mistake, but then I'm not WBA chairman.
