So we'd get someone off the managerial merry go round?
To the best of my knowledge Phillips is currently unemployed (discounting his media work) he left Stoke when Rowett got the bullet, haven’t heard of clubs falling over themselves to give him a managerial position, just because he played here doesn’t automatically mean he’ll make a good manager, maybe West Brom will take a chance on him?

It also doesn't mean he won't make a manager. Someone has to take a chance on these people otherwise how would they ever get experience?

I’ll accept that, but personally I wouldn’t want it to be us down to his complete lack of experience.

You mean like Roy Keane?
After the initial impact it all went downhill a bit quick though didn’t it?

As oppose to a novice like Keane?
See above

Didn't we giving Roy Keane a job?
Ditto ^^^

KP been on goals on Sunday talking how he’s ready to get into management.

Reports today claim WBA were after Alex Neil and if can’t get him they’ll go for Ross. Neill just signed new contract with Preston.

Would anyone object to this?
Of course - its a stupid idea based only on sentiment.

Popular myths accompanied by predictable knee jerk reaction. Usually follows a freak result and performance. On balance Ross has done remarkably well to arrest the slide, change the negativity which was putting the club under and deserves a good deal of credit. Promotion or not.

The thing is though he didn't arrest the slide. The new owners did that....almost everyone responsible for that slide had gone.....Short Bain, Coleman, the coaching staff, the backroom staff and 90% of the players. Ross inherited a clean sheet, owners and chief exec who knew what they were doing.....and crucially, money to spend. I'd argue that half the current managers in L1 would have done at least as well and several better than Ross.

It's a myth that he inherited a club in crisis......in effect he inherited a blank canvas.

I genuinely thought we could actually drop another division before the new owners and JR came in - like Pompey and Coventry did. Its funny how people forget the realities of where we were. There was nobody, simply nobody, who thought us relying on Maja would be good enough. Because he came in part way though the summer we missed out on a number of his targets such as Lyle Taylor and Mo Eisa.

I'm not saying he hasn't made mistakes but I don't buy the view that we should have walked the division. We have brought in 20 odd players in a relatively short time and that is just not a straightforward thing. I would certainly give Ross another year if we don't go up - football today totally lacks any patience but fortunately the new owners have a longer term plan. They said when they came in that they were planning for a couple of years in League One - that is not defeatist it is just good planning for the possibility that we may not walk the league.
