I agree for the most part but I didn't blame Scholes when he decided to wrap in. One of our most naturally talented players constantly pushed out to the left wing to accommodate the Gerrard / Lampard axis!
It's because both were better than him, to be fair.
hardly any players do.
greatest english striker of all time

One of our greatest ever players and literally our greatest ever footballer. I look forward to watching him succeed at his boyhood team for the next 3/4 years, and then see SAFC sign him.
Scholes had been absolute dogshit for England for about 3 years. In fact he'd been poor for Man United for a few years and was shunted about for them, but that's conveniently forgotten. Lampard and Gerrard were both playing well for club at country, regardless of how it panned outWe'll have to agree to disagree there mind, marra.

So will we. Scholes overrated in hindsight for some reason. We'll have to agree to disagree there mind, marra.

Will go down as a Man United, England and Premier League legend.
- Most capped outfield England player of all time
- All time top goalscorer for England
- All time top goalscorer for Manchester United
- Second highest goalscorer in the Premier League (200 goals & still playing)
- 5 Premier League titles
- 1 Champions League
- 1 Europa League
- 3 League Cup's
- 1 FA Cup
- 1 FIFA World Club Cup
- FIFPro Young Player of the Year - 2004/05
- Made the FIFA FIFPro World XI in 2011
- Euro2004 Team of the Tournament
Yet people still moan about him not reaching his potential
Forget what he won at united. That's a teams effort, not a single players. Wayne Rooney at 17 had the potential to be a far better player than he ever was. Will go down as a Man United, England and Premier League legend.

He either didn't reach his potential, or peaked very early. It's definitely one of those because he's been nothing like the player he used to be for about six years for club, and over 10 years for country.
He was a world class player a long time ago, but hasn't been for a long while now.

I can be arsed to do the research but there'll be countless others who've won plenty at Utd. I'm glad you mentioned Ronaldo because he was always a good measuring stick for Rooney. When they both first went to Utd they were on a very level footing. Even if you look at their debuts, Ronaldo destroyed Bolton I think and Rooney scored a hat trick in the CL. Ronaldo kind of dropped off a bit and there was a time that people thought he was all fart no shit, Rooney continued do well for for a player of his age. Through sheer hard work Ronaldo has become one of the best players of all time while Rooney has rarely ever even been in the top 10 players in the world at any given time. He's gotten to 31 and people, wrongly imo, are saying he's washed up, but the fact of the matter is Ronaldo who was on a level footing with him 12 years ago is still in the top 2 players in the world, while Rooney is playing at a level that allows people to label him washed up.I think if he was played as the main striker for most of his career he'd have been even better. The way he plays for the team meant Ferguson played him on the wing in big games as he knew he could rely on him to track back unlike Ronaldo.
He had one season where he was the main striker all season and he scored 40 goals.
Think his willingness to track back and work for the team stopped him from becoming an even better player.
You can't forget what he won at Man United. He was a huge reason why they were as successful as they were.
