Ronaldo

Done it in prem
Done it in Spain
Done it for Portugal

Messi hasn’t done anything with Argentina who have a better pool of players
Won a Youth World Cup.
Olympic Gold in 2004.
3 Copa America finals
1 FIFA Confederation Cup final
1 FIFA World Cup.

His record in major tournaments is better than Ronaldo's. At the last WC he scored 3 and had 2 assists. He had the highest passing accuracy and create more chances than any other player. He won 4 man of the match awards at the Copa America in 2015 and 2016 which is a record. Up until yesterday he was the only Argentine play to score a competitive goal in a year. He also dragged Argentina through the toughest qualifying region in international football. It's a myth that he has a poor international record.

Also, the Portuguese sides of 2004 & 2006 were good teams. They got to the final of the Euros and semi finals of the WC in 2006.

Not sure about the toughest qualifying region, and the results so far, albeit early in the tournament, aren't showing the South American teams in any great light:-
Peru 0-1 Denmark
Argentina 1-1 Iceland (who have the population of Stoke on Trent)
Costa Rica 0-1 Serbia
Egypt 0-1 Uruguay

Compared to Europe it is.
Brazil
Argentina
Colombia
Chile
Peru
Paraguay
Bolivia
Ecuador
Venezuela
All in the 1 group playing against each for 4 spots and 1 play-off spot. Compare that to being in a group with
Switzerland
Hungary
Faroe Islands
Latvia
Andorra

4 out of 9 qualify or 1 out of 5. Percentage wise, if I was Argentina, I'd take my chances against Bolivia and Venezuela. We could also look at it from another angle and say that the likes of Italy & Netherlands failed to qualify. Even Scotland missed out man.

10, I forgot Uruguay. I suppose it's about opinions. In Europe teams benefit from seeding.

Ah yes, those minnows of the club game

As for Portugal, before Friday night he had done just as much (if not less) than Messi at major tournaments. Unless we are going to class when his country won the tournament as he wasn't playing?

He played right up to the final, though.

I screwed up actually, Costa Rica came in through CONCACAF. Great goal there by Mexico, also from CONCACAF.

As for Messi in his last 3 tournaments. By that argument, Messi is better.

I mean, it's a stupid argument btw, so I'm not suggesting it. But you see how you can twist the facts to suit an agenda?

Portugal wouldn't have got out of their group without Ronaldo. They were poor up until the Quarter-finals.

This is a rewrite of history. They drew three games in the group and got through because the format had changed to allow 3rd place teams through. He scored in one game (2 goals in a 3-3 draw with Hungary) and miss a penalty in another.

Another example of Ronaldo's apparent big game mentality; in Euro 2012 semi finals he was clean through in 90th minute and smashed his chance over the bar, and Portugal went out on pens.

Now, it'd be f***ing idiotic to suggest that is a sign he is a bottler, or not good enough in a tournament, or whatever. It's just one of them things.

But that's what Ronaldo fans do with Messi (and what Messi fans do with Ronaldo as well).

Both sides go insane ott to defend their side, and bend the facts to suit their agenda.
