Ronald Dahl Censored

Dahl fought the real Nazis during WW2 when he was in the RAF iirc.

I guess that the meaning of the word ‘Nazi’ has changed over the years. It’s a mild insult nowadays.

A quote of his.

There is a trait in the Jewish character that does provoke animosity; maybe it's a kind of lack of generosity towards non-Jews. I mean there is always a reason why anti-anything crops up anywhere; even a stinker like Hitler didn't just pick on them for no reason.

And another…

makes one wonder in the end what sort of people these Israelis are. It is like the good old Hitler and Himmler times all over age

Using contemporary judgements I think that you might call him an imperial old fascist racist.
It must have been quite clear he was back in this prime too, especially when you throw his eugenics views in.
Salman Rushdie isn’t keen on the changes, either.

Rushdie isn't trying to shore up vote amongst a certain demographic and to deflect from his failures, however.

First editions of James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory can go for thousands.
Some loon will have those books but will have tippexed out any words they disagree with, vastly decreasing the value. Go woke, go broke.

Dwarves are on borrowed time, and Hobbits feet definitely off limits.

"Gandalf the aging, yet still useful to society and active in the community" may still be some way off however
 I was referring more to the language that he used.

Even Enid Blyton was in the Hitler youth.

I wonder if GB News will be inviting viewers to ring in saying which update has angered them the most.

This is apparently going to come as a bit of a shock to you so you might want to sit down.

People re-write authors work before the work even gets published, they're called editors.

See my further post. I have no problem with editting work where its justified. Where language evolves and changes meaning or where society changes.

The renaming of the dog in the Dambusters is totally appropriate in my mind. It was socially acceptable in the days it was written but not fine now. I get that

But is anyone really offended or upset by the phrase "white as a sheet"? Is "Ugly" or "fat" now inappropriate? They're words and phrases in common usage, and removing them (to me as someone both ugly and fat) achieves nothing. So why do it?

His books have been updated a number of times over the years. Good chance the ones you read as a youngster were already edited from the original
That doesn't seem a satisfactory excuse for the recent edit
Charlie & The Chocolate Factory was released in 64 and had its first update in 74 to amend the oompah loompah's from being pigmys from Africa to little people from Loompah Land

So unless you were reading the version that had African pigmys in then you were already reading an edited version, a woke version? You love woke now?!
You can see why that would be problematic (as did the author).
What's the excuse for the current changes?

its more racist changing it, suggesting somthing is wrong with black surley.

and the Koran.
Easy to change both the Bible and the Koran. Page one heading: This book wasn't written by God, keep this in mind when reading the upcoming bollocks.
Dwarves are on borrowed time, and Hobbits feet definitely off limits.

"Gandalf the aging, yet still useful to society and active in the community" may still be some way off however
Lord of the Rings is a dodgy title for starters.

Yes, this is what is wrong with society today.
Something that has gone on for centuries without a word.
It's just another "Look, a Corbyn" distraction by the right wing while they f*ck this country.

You need the room over there, the one that's thankfully padlocked :D

I find it amusing that people that it probably doesn’t even have any impact on are changing things because some don’t even know what the fuck they are.

Never in the field of diversity was so much changed by so many to so few.
