Romelu Lukaku

Kenwyne Jones was 'huge', Connor Wickham is 'huge'. We should want somebody that can score goals

Would Lukaku even represent an upgrade on Wickham? We'd be replacing our own young, in need of experience striker, with another young striker who needs experience. It would be an odd move unless we're absolutely convinced he's ready to play regularly.

I have seen nothing from Wickham yet to suggest that he is a prospect, he first touch isn't good, he doesn't have pace, is he good that air?? I have seen nothing to suggest he is, he isn't a goal poacher becuase he doesn't make the runs in the box?

what are Wickhams strengths? serious question?

You know he wont give a fuck at the end of the loan for fact?

How are we wasting money? What money? loan fee and x wages (you dont always pay all their wages either, loan team might even pay them so we develop him over the season by playing him).

Nail on head

So it's worked to some degree. Yes we need players still, but we needed them from day one so are no worse off and are established.

As long as we don't rely on loans like we did under Bruce, he was slaughtered for his loan policy on here and rightly so. I just dont see the point of giving other clubs players the experience we could give our own unless there is a deal at end of it. How many loans have actually been outstanding all season ?? Evans was one, cant think of many others...

That's beside the point. Whatever Wickham's strengths and weaknesses may be, I have even less idea of Lukaku's who is equally unproven at any sort of decent level of football. As such, he'd just be a gamble to replace a gamble. Between the two, as it stands, I'd rather see Wickham get some time playing for us as ultimately he is our player.

As it is, I think the lad has good ball control and can finish. Just see his performance against Bolton at home last season.

Goal against Villa as well. Even though they are few and far between we have more relevant examples of Wickham's abilities than Lukaku's.

Indeed marra. Lukaku could well be the next Drogba. I really don't know and I doubt any of our fans do. It just seems like a waste of time signing Wickham, sending him on loan, and replacing him on our bench (assuming we get Fletcher) with another unproven youngster who is looking for first team football for a season.

wha hey :lol: a goal against, you don't need to do much these days.

I'd like to see Wickham stay and fight for his place. If he is good enough then it doesn't matter who we bring in. But as long as wickham is in the team on merit not becuase we spunkd 8 million quid on him.

I agree with this. Wickham has been a shocking signing so far, if this is yet another wasted season he only has two left on his contract. It really makes you wonder what Bruce was thinking, probably desperate. We're a week away from the season starting now so I'll bet we're desperate as well.

He looked good enough when he was playing alongside Bendtner and scored against Villa before getting injured the following week against Man Utd. He came back against Blackburn when we had no other options and was clearly unfit but came in and played regardless. He then didn't really look right for the rest of the season.

He like many other strikers is possibly not most effective in a lone striker role.

O'Neill didn't sign him and he has no ego to dent by not selecting him. if he plays he plays, if he doesn't then he's obviously not good enough and he will leave. Now, why exactly should we sign Lukaku?

I think you've completely missed the gist of my post there.

I have no issues with it. Clearly a good player, just needs game time. Two powerful strikers are what we need.

Im normally against loans unless they have a buy option but my arse is starting to twitch so getting someone in before arsenal im happy to fuck off my beliefs on loans.

I don't think it was Bruce's idea to spend 8 million on a kid personally. Pretty sure he was bought as a club investment.

I still think if the loan system is used correctly it can be to our benefit, obviously Bruce messed up as he loaned to many at once then didnt replace them properly once they'd gone back

Say we can only afford to buy 3 quality players this summer, why not use the loan market to try and get another 2 in then replace them next summer. We would have a stronger side for it this season

despite interest from West Ham, QPR and, more notably Sunderland, Lukaku is due at Albion over the weekend to undergo medical tests ahead of securing a season-long loan.
Sunderland were keen to take Lukaku as their search for a striker intensifies.
