Rolling broadband contracts

I'm with Virgin Media at the minute and only 5 months into my 18 month contract. Just been informed that due to them increasing their prices by 13.9% in April any customers under contract are able to change providers without any termination fees. This suits me at the minute as I'm hoping to relocate in the next 3-4 weeks for work and may look at getting into a house share in the short term just to make the move a bit easier.

Are there any providers who offer a rolling 30 day broadband / fibre deals? Had a quick look on uswitch there but nothing came up.
Ours is going up by 13%.
Inflation is 10%. Robbing bastards.

Virgin are c*nts. I moved to a property last year which couldn't get virgin broadband so had to change provider and they made me pay every penny of the remaining 18 month contract to them. (over £400)

I'm with virgin broadband but had no emails about price increases. is it meant to be going up for every customer?

Aye, same here, mine ends around September this year.
Noticed another company installing ducts around where I live SR3 area, wonder when they will be ready to provide BB.

Where in SR3?
I'd love to fuck virgin off if I could get comparable speeds.

You can check here if it's available yet...

If not sign up and they'll let you know when the network is live.

I would have complained about that and went through the process to the ombudsman. He would have found in your favour if they didn't back down beforehand.

Unfortunately it's in the terms of the contracts they offer that you need to pay the remainder if moving to an area where virgin can't provide the service, not sure the ombudsman would help in that case.

They can stick what they want in a contract regarding exit fees cos it's summat that is very loosely covered by OFCOM regulations, it doesn't necessarily mean the ombudsman would come down on their side.

I would have still raised a complaint and as the provider has to cough up nearly £300 for every complaint that reaches the ombudsman I suspect they would have backed down before it got that far anyway. Paying out £300 to collect £400 (with associated admin costs etc) doesn't make much financial sense and they would realise that.

You would have nowt to lose anyway, there's no penalty for raising a complaint. OFCOM is a much better regulator than OFGEM fwiw (and I've worked with both over the last 10 years).

I might take a look at that to be fair. I would imagine i would need to pay up the remainder of the contract then claim it back through the ombudsman otherwise my credit history will be impacted for breach of contract / missed payment etc?

A broadband contract isn't a credit agreement (unlike mobile phone contracts). Even if the fee didn't get waived I'd be phoning them up, pleading poverty and offering to pay a fixed £10 a month just to be awkward. It only really affects your credit rating if it gets passed to a DCA which is what happens if you make no attempt to pay.

A very useful piece of information that, cheers 👍

Zen do, I think.

If it isn't a credit agreement then why is it on both my Experian and Equifax statutory credit report?

They dug up around our way (SR2) a few months back, and hoyed letters through the door bigging up these new superfast broadband speeds we could apparently now get. Hoyed my details in to see what they could offer and it's seemingly the same old bog standard 50mbps it's been for the last decade.
