Rolling broadband contracts

I'm with Virgin Media at the minute and only 5 months into my 18 month contract. Just been informed that due to them increasing their prices by 13.9% in April any customers under contract are able to change providers without any termination fees. This suits me at the minute as I'm hoping to relocate in the next 3-4 weeks for work and may look at getting into a house share in the short term just to make the move a bit easier.

Are there any providers who offer a rolling 30 day broadband / fibre deals? Had a quick look on uswitch there but nothing came up.

Would a MiFi type setup work for you?

Can you not just use it as a reason to exit WHEN you want it to end? I.e. say due to the increases you are entitled to give them X notice, but you will give them Y and agree to part ways on that date?

Apparently I need to cancel within 30 days of being informed of the price increase, which was (I think) a couple of weeks ago.

Perhaps, never thought of that!

£60 setup fee. Outrageous that.

I'm with virgin broadband but had no emails about price increases. is it meant to be going up for every customer?

They all have to have at least one, but are not obliged to advertise it.

Anyone know if going onto one of their social tariff contracts would still be subject to increases every year ? Just my current contract runs out in October and I don't want to sign a new contract only for it to go up massively in April 2024 and we won't be able to haggle anymore.

The price won't go up mid-contract. You won't pay any more than what you agree at the start of the contract.

Good band apparently. Ive seen The Rolling Stones and The Rolling Blackouts so I may as well do the treble.

If they put the price up raise a complaint and take it through the process to the ombudsman.

That's not gonna work when they've changed their terms and conditions.
Best you can do (virginmedia) is cancel within 30 days of them informing you of the price hike.

Which Virgin Media customers are affected?

The price hike is applied to almost all customers using Virgin Media broadband, TV or home phone packages once they reach the end of their fixed-term contract. But there's an exception for the following groups:

  • Those on a Virgin Media Essential broadband deal, which is available to people receiving financial support like Universal Credit

So they're basically closing that loophole April 24
