Rolling blackouts

Difference was, then, people had coal fires or gas fires they could afford to put on, now, they're going to be sitting in the dark with no heating.
I'd actually explored the possibility of getting a calor gas heater but they scare me, I'd be scared of hooking up the gas / pipe in case I blew the house up (but they'd be canny for heating a room up and drying clothes on the clothes horse).

Used them all the time when I was a young'un. Pretty safe as the valves generally have to be connected properly or gas can't flow, I dare say it's possible to screw up but probably only if you are trying.

Word of caution though you must have outside airflow i.e. a suitable vent or a window opened enough to allow fresh air in.
